I have been playin paintball for about 4 years now. I have been wonderin what the difference before i spend my money on an aeg. I do own a gas m92f pistol and I have played with other kids with other pistols. However i have never played with aegs. I was wondering what you guys think is so much better about airsoft. I think I want to change, paintball is getting really boring and way to expensive. I hate paying 99 bucks for a case a paint. I just wanna hear u guys oppinion.

The overriding force in most people's reasoning for playing Airsoft vs. Paintball is Realism/Simulation. Most of us enjoy having guns that look like real guns, dressing up in military gear, and playing war. Also, you may find that people are much, much more concerned with simply having a good time playing airsoft. People are more courteous, and less competitive. Airsoft is less about winning, and more about just playing. This, to many (myself included) is a huge drawing point for airsoft. Of course, cost is also a factor. Airsoft bb's are much, much cheaper than paintballs, even after you take into account how much more you shoot when Airsofting. $100 in bb's can allow you to play a whole summer. The guns themselves are cheaper than higher-end paintball guns, but, it's perfectly possible to spend just as much on an airsoft gun as a paintball gun (ask Jacko ) Overall, there's plenty of reasons to do both...many airsofters also play paintball, and vice versa. Give it a whirl, if you find you don't like it as much as you thought you would, you can always sell your gun(s).

I concur with Xaos, i love airsoft for the realism and its a lot cheaper than paintball. Plus i like combat simulation which i think is a lot different than paintballing

Actually, when you get right down to it, Airsoft and Paintball prolly run just about the same cost... cost of paint skews things towards paintball being more expensive, however. If you take a look at how much you can buy for airsoft, including gear, upgrades, mags, bats, etc. vs paintball gears, You'll prolly be surprised when you find that airsoft is more expensive in that regard =)
I chose to start airsofting basically because friends wanted me to. However, I've chosen to stay in the sport for some of the reasons mentioned above. Community is a *big* factor. Most of the paintballers that I met during my run were... I dunno, not as community-oriented as airsofters. The guys that I've played with so far impressed me *a lot* with how nice they've been - I love being able to bullshit with GK guys at every event I go to, and being able to talk with people like munin, luke, viking, hado, ryan(aco), and many others. Very rarely have I seen anybody actually get annoyed/angry at an Op. And, when I have seen it, people calm quite quickly. In paintball, I saw a lot more cheating, abuse of the rules, and people really ragging on each other.
To sum up the above feelings - Someone could feasibly come to an Op with a Super 9 and probably not get too much shit. If someone went to a paintball field with a brass eagle tigershark however, they'd probably get laughed offa the field ;p

I like it because its actually more fun and realistic. Paintball has changed in that everyone just lobs paint at each other. No one lobs there shots in airsoft. Also the guns are way cooler. And as hard as it may seem, there is a lot less cheating in airsoft than paintball. In the beginning thought airsoft is more expensive to get into because you have to buy clips and accesories for your gun. but in the long run it is cheaper.

Why prefer airsoft you ask?
In my opinion, the whole point of all of these replicas, toys, and whatnot out there is to play war, which is arguably what all male children have grown up to embrace. We have our nerf guns, paintball guns, water guns... etc etc. Airsoft guns are one of the highest ranked in this so-called hierrarchy of toys.
(EDIT: toys for responsible people of course)
I had more to say but too lazy to write it

I like it cuz it's all realistic, the guns shoot pretty much straight, instead of an arc, and the spring guns are a lot less expensive then paintball guns

Yeah, there are surrender rules, and 'knife kills' if you're within arm's reach.

I played airsoft for about 4 months, then I switched to paintball because I thought airsoft was just cheap ass guns (I did'nt know about gas guns or AEG's). Then I spend about $300 on a paintball gun. Now I'm back into airsoft and I just ordered my MP5A5 HG SWAT 2 days ago. So personally, I like airsoft better because it is cheaper, looks cooler, unlike airsoft, paintballers always get pissed when they get out. Also, I like the idea of military simulation.

When I looked at the title of the thread i thought, ooooh boy *sigh* another noob thats going to get ragged on. I was quite amazed that there was a someone intelligent question posed, although thoroughly discussed. So here is my answer. In the beginning, it looks like paintball is cheaper because you can spend 150 for a decent marker, and about 325 shipped for an airsoft gun. Even with the offset of ammo, paintball is stiiill cheaper... 50 bucks for a decent amount of paint, aand about 25 bucks for a lot of bbs. The next step for airsoft is realism, you go out and buy a set of camo and a few extra clips and a chest pouch and a helmet cuz it looks cool and a sidearm and upgrades and boots and perhaps an upgrade on your AEG. WOW, thats a lot. Considering youre going to be in the sport for a long time, youre set for a long time. All you need now are bbs and good ol electricity and perhaps replacement parts for when your gun decides to break. BBs are cheap, paint is expensive, obviously. You would probably end up spending much more in airsoft in the long run, but be much happier to see your money invested than splatted on some poor chaps ass.

It is cheaper to get started in paintball, but that is considering that the gun you buy only cost $150- $200. When I bought my autococker I ended up spending $800. Thats nothing considering that a lot of high end guns start at $500 and go up to $2000. Factor in the cost of a nitro tank and a good hopper, and you can end up spending a hell of a lot of money.
Airsoft can get expensive also, but in the long run I thinks airsoft will always be cheaper to play. Which is one of the reasons I stopped playing paintball.

I play both of them.Ive played Pball for 5 years now, and airsoft for only a dew months. I like them both almost the same. They both got there ups and downs. paintball is way more expensive than airsoft no doubt about it. You have to pay for Air and then paint thats almost $30 right there. Like most of you said paintballs simulation is the best. Theres nothing like bunkering people and gettin bunkerd. Airsoft is sweet because you can wear all your battle gear and have your favirate weapons. Wearing real gear (unlike paintball) and not just playing to win but for realism.

I actually don't find paintball's "simulation" to be better. I played paintball for fifteen years, and the way paintball is now bears little to no resemblance to what it started out as.
Bunkering and getting bunkered by people? I don't view that as a rush, I view it as a waste of paint. The whole "bunker" concept irks the crap out of me. I find speedball/hyperball to be a morally bankrupt endeavor that is essentially purpose-designed to force people to waste as much paint as possible in a short amount of time. As a side note, the last few times I played paintball in the woods, it was fun to kill all the tournament players that would diligently check and clear every bunker and barrel, but would walk right by a bush or stand of tall grass without even thinking to check there. They don't think about concealment at all, and most eschew camouflage. Okay, if that's the way you want to do it...
In most combat zones in the world, there aren't pre-made bunkers and tins strategically set up around the field. You have to advance the hard way, using terrain, concealment, stealth, and surprise. As such, I find the typical paintball field to be a very poor "simulation" of anything but paintball.
I played paintball for a long time, and eventually got disgusted with what it had become. Then I found airsoft. Never going back.

Thats where you went wrong. You think that paintball is supposed to a war situation but its not. Paintball is much rather like a sport than a war game. Paintball is about rich cocky people with $1000 guns who think there the best , wearing all blue in a woodland enviroment. I dont think you can compare Airsoft to Paintball anymore. There total opposites.
