Wow,
I just got done reading this thread. I have been so busy I have not even been to the boards in a while.
I am truley sorry to hear about your guns being taken .
But, when I first read about the "construction site" I thought "well I am sure they let the police know about the skirmish"
Guys I would not be surprised if we don't see this on TV in the next month (I hope we don't, but man that was stupid) Something like this, ONE TIME THING, could be the END of airsoft in Michigan.
I wouldn't count on getting the guns back either, they now have time to look at them over the next weeks and months and be "shocked" at how real they look and some of those officers are going to realize, "Man, I could have shot some kid over a these guns" That realization WILL sink in over the next few days. Believe me no cop WANTS to shoot anyone, despite how tough they may talk.
and you better believe this is not some obscure and quickly forgotten event in that PD either, NO, this is something they will be talking about with thier friends and word of this WILL spread.
"In Local News, 15-20 Automatic weapons seized by police in Nightime raid", what news or TV station wouldn't pick up on that headline?!?
Yeah! so what if they aren't "technically" or legally "automatic weapons"!
You think for one minute that Holly Homemaker knows that, or Cal the congressmen??
especially with all the focus on HOMELAND SECURITY.
That story will bring ratings and legislation!
I know we all want to play as much as we can, but we HAVE TO police ourselves and hold to a standard, or we might as well just hang it up now, because this incident will repeat if we do not do the right thing.
If you are not calling the local police department/sheriff informing them of skirmishes, even on YOUR OWN private property, you ARE in the wrong. If you are afraid to call them for fear that you are already in the wrong, or afraid of them knowing about airsoft, then you really don't value the sport, and you certainly don't respect other airsofters who have taken the steps neccessary to avert any negative press, or possibly fatal incidents.
If you aren't willing to do this, or require it of others or hosting/event organizers, then maybe you shouldn't be in airsoft in the first place.
Now I know this has been harsh, but it is not an insignificant thing that has happened, and I am not apologizing for my tone. Nor am I chastizing (beating up on) those who went to the event and lost thier guns, I am simply trying to make it very clear that airsoft is in danger of being banned if we do not take the precautions to protect it.
thank you. Mike Sabatino, Wolverine Tactical Supply

I think you are right on the money Mike!!! We need to keep ourselves in check and make sure that all the right people are notified when we play. We do not need the residents of this state, or the whole country for that matter, looking at Airsoft the way they looked at Paintball for so many years.

I also agree Mike is right on the money! I also agree with everythin he has said and considering those things in events is gonna be REALLY important to the future of airsoft. In reality its not THAT hard to call the police to make sure it is OK and get WRITTEN prmission if it not your land. I'm doing this with the OP im setting up (FLAG OP with some MiA guys) and as i said its not all that hard.

Mike is wise in his tellings. None of us wanna see the end of our great sport. Now, while I may be a newbie to Airsoft, it is still a big deal to me and I can appreciate the seriousness of this whole situation. I hate what happened, it is one thing all of us Airsofters fear, and few of us have been unfortunate enough to experience. I don't know if Airsoft is even legal in my city(there has been a confiscation)and I don't really want to bring it before my city council to find out for fear of exposing it to those who do not yet understand it, namely gun-ban happy parents and congressmen and such.

Bigmack had to go down to the police station and sign for 20 some guns. For awhile it looked as though they weren't going to get them back.
