Tapatalk is also working on the new site, and as a perk it doesn't screw up the names of people showing their old registration name rather than their current name which is nice;)

Images are just bigger than text and other content so if we don't have to host them it's just less data to have to run through the server. Personally I don't think bandwidth is much of an issue. This is 2015, most if not all of the people on this forum have high-speed connections with either unlimited data or really high data caps.

No not bandwidth from the user perspective, they are downloading the image from where it's hosted. From the host perspective. For instance lets say you post a thread with 20mb of images, if they are on the new server then every user that loads them is using 20mb of output from the server. If they are on some other service then it's downloading just the text etc from our server and that 20mb of data is coming off someone else. So basically it just limits how much data is running through the new system. If we knew exactly how much we need it might be different but since there are so many places to host images for free, we may as well use that feature to save the site some money over the long term on hosting.

I only have one outstanding issue with the site:
Oh God, Karma is back.

Some gripes for the site for me. I wanna be able to tap the MiA logo and it take me back to the home page.
I like the look, it feels like the older MiA. Maybe update it so it's more like a new old MiA. Maybe put some sort of background behind the MiA logo, make it look nice.
Other than that I don't have any problems with the new site, I haven't used it very long though.

Personally, I think that the unread and replied buttons could be a little bit easier to access, maybe a count on pm's.

Personally, I think that the unread and replied buttons could be a little bit easier to access, maybe a count on pm's. I need a little more explanation there, I'm seeing a count of the number of PM's in the box at the top left just south of the MIA logo along with unread and replied threads. Were you missing those or explain better and I'll take a look;) Luke

I really like how you tried to make the new website as close to the original as possible. Seamless transition is important. Keep up the good work.

Luke, here on MiA, the participated and unread post buttons are really easy to read and click, the text is larger, and more centralized on the page. Same goes for Mi6mm. I just think a messages button and unread posts button next to the larger buttons, like the profile and log-out ones, would be a lot easier to access.

Well guys I've been working some on layouts and whatnot. There will be many things coming as time permits. Like anything it's never done it's always going to bring new changes. I did however toss up a theme I changed some and put together as a more modern looking alternative and guys who've got an account on the new site can go to their profile and change their theme to the one called "cake" which is the name of the original theme I modified. And it will give you a look at one of the options I've been fiddling with, it's not done by any stretch just something I threw together the other day for guys who don't like the old school look.
Take care!

Just wanted to pop in and show my support in favor of the new site.
I've been highly in favor of a new site for awhile now and I was really excited when I saw Mi6mm popup. Although it became very clear to me immediately after joining that 6mm was not the solution; I frankly don't like what the moderating staff are going for and how they run things there. When I found out about the new MiA I was incredibly skeptical; in fact I had already quit MiA altogether a couple months prior because it is/was my personal opinion after years of debating the topic with myself that MiA did more harm than good for the airsoft community as I know it.
I'm not going to say the new MiA is any better, in fact the visual elements are dated and I largely agree with that choice, but it's a fresh start and it's clear that is how the mods see it too. They have obviously worked to incorporate feedback from the community and are looking to be inclusive. There are afew tech related issues and features that need to be cleaned up still; but it's a good, refreshing, start.
All that said, I am making the switch in full shortly and Ill be encouraging others to do the same. If I send someone to MiA that will be the site I send them too. Even if it changes themes and features every week till we get it right.
One of the things an old fourm I belonged to did was make a bunch of themes submitted by members of the community avaliable in the profiles settings menu, so everyone could try them and then vote to commit to one. Maybe those who are more tech savvy would step up to the plate and offer some assistance or even their own themes to the mods of MiA.

I think I mentioned it but if anyone wants to build a theme for the new site, just shoot me a note I'd love some help on that front since my time is limited because of my business and family time etc.
And suggestions are always appreciated;) I can't say everything will make the cut there I'm sure will be things that won't make it to the finished site but I can say there is a fair number of new things we're looking to put up there still that aren't available. And I'm sure we'll come up with more as time passes;)
Take care!
