Just wanted to pop in and show my support in favor of the new site. I've been highly in favor of a new site for awhile now and I was really excited when I saw Mi6mm popup. Although it became very clear to me immediately after joining that 6mm was not the solution; I frankly don't like what the moderating staff are going for and how they run things there. When I found out about the new MiA I was incredibly skeptical; in fact I had already quit MiA altogether a couple months prior because it is/was my personal opinion after years of debating the topic with myself that MiA did more harm than good for the airsoft community as I know it. I'm not going to say the new MiA is any better, in fact the visual elements are dated and I largely agree with that choice, but it's a fresh start and it's clear that is how the mods see it too. They have obviously worked to incorporate feedback from the community and are looking to be inclusive. There are afew tech related issues and features that need to be cleaned up still; but it's a good, refreshing, start. All that said, I am making the switch in full shortly and Ill be encouraging others to do the same. If I send someone to MiA that will be the site I send them too. Even if it changes themes and features every week till we get it right. One of the things an old fourm I belonged to did was make a bunch of themes submitted by members of the community avaliable in the profiles settings menu, so everyone could try them and then vote to commit to one. Maybe those who are more tech savvy would step up to the plate and offer some assistance or even their own themes to the mods of MiA. No worries, nothing like that, everyone is fine as far as I know. I've never had a problem with you or your mods on 6mm, mia, or otherwise.
It simply boiled down to personal preference. I was looking for something less restrictive and less stratified than MiA, its pretty clear from the structure that 6mm is very much the opposite. I also had to make a judgement about weather I thought it would last and be worth the effort to continue to use; we've all seen plenty of MiA alternatives come and go, and my better judgement told me that while 6mm has had the best chance out of all alternatives, I still feel confident that it is not going to stand the test of time as well as MiA. I also see a fourm that is very mod-centric, which I'm not all too fond of; and most involved in 6mm seem to be acting very threatened an defensive manner in MiA. Which I can understand, it's a new forum trying to wrestle with a giant for users. While you guys can claim your not trying to split the community, this is whats going to happen none-the-less, simply for the fact that some users, like myself, are not going to log into more than one airsoft forum on a regular basis. Not your fault, not MiA's fault, its just the nature of the beast.
As for my login time, I spent time browsing the site before creating an account. The only reason I ended up creating an account was because their were areas that were/are inaccessible as a guest, which quite frankly is a huge No-no in my book for a public forum.
Although I believe this thread is about the new MiA site and not the 6mm site.

As much as possible I'd like to avoid putting one forum up against another. We are all in this because we love airsoft. MI6mm gave us an alternative when proboards screwed us and the other forum sites have their benefits in their own way as well. MIA has always been a hub and I know that it will continue to be that way but I'd like to think that we are all working together to enhance our sport.
As for miairsoft.org, this new site is just the next and much needed evolution for MIA. I certainly hope that you guys who are active will make the transition over and continue to point those who are looking to get into the sport towards the new site. The community is only as good as those who participate in it. There are going to be some growing pains as we move over but we are trying to make it work. Keep in mind that nobody is getting paid to do any of this and everyone who is putting in the work is doing so on their own time.
I understand how easy it is to be critical and say that things look like balls but just be aware of the many hours that have already been put in and the many hours that are still to be put in to make sure that our community will continue to have a good home online. All of us only have 24 hours in a day and we have families and other responsibilities so the time being put into this site is a huge sacrifice. Just keep that in mind and be patient as we move forward.

Sorry, I'm only giving you my honest opinion. If you'd rather have a reach around just ask nicely

You can be right but still be wrong in the way you deliver it. Also this is what BALLS look like. I don't think the new site looks anything like that.

Not your fault, not MiA's fault, its just the nature of the beast.. I was a little amused to read this because I think part of the reason MIA lasted as long as it did was aggressive modding. That is not to say that the moderation here is perfect; it isn't perfect now and it used to be worse. The days when the mod staff was a couple cool guys + GK might have included some real characters but the modding was heavy-handed, uneven, and cliquish. I think we're past that now. I think we have shown that people who want to be part of the staff can show up, establish a reputation as good forum members, and end up as global mods. The only big fuss we have is an annual argument about modding in public or via PM, and in that argument, I think both sides have a point and it's a tough call. I haven't ever logged into Mi6mm and I'm not an admin on the new site; my personal trajectory seems to be away from the sport, and so I don't really have a dog in this fight. I will say that prior to this Proboards crackdown that neutered a lot of the value of this site, most new forums were founded by people who wanted laxer modding standards or just wanted to be mods somewhere. If you think of a web forum solely in terms of a series of web pages, that might make sense, but when you think of it as a community, it doesn't. The only people looking forward to spinning off from one community to one that tolerates bad behavior are the worst-behaved. They can't sustain the community on their own. By the same logic, the only folks looking to split from one community to a new one with different leadership are those who really despise the old leadership. If they had a majority or even a large minority, they'd have been able to influence said leadership and they wouldn't need to break away. With this site so heavily damaged by the loss of commerce, the community has to move anyway, and that will probably lead to a reshuffling of sorts. It's open season and nobody has the right to be the new MIA. This forum grew into what it is now naturally and the new forums will need to evolve in the same way. I just hope that whichever site ends up with the lion's share of traffic going forward gets it because it best servers the needs of the Michigan airsoft community and not because of a personal conflict, a forum skin, or a search engine ranking.

I agree with you in how the modding in the past was brutal. I know of at least 10 people that quit the forums and never returned as a result(I quit too but eventually returned). Now a days it is much more lax and pretty decent. Sometimes I think some mods get a little carried away with minor grammars issues. No one should get a account locked for a week just because they did not use a capital letter (my opinion). I have been using the new forum since the first day it was announced and have only come back to this one 2 times just to post a event in case other haven't moved over yet. I think the other forum is just fine, I dont really understand why some people are complaining about how it looks, it is simply a forum. I dont care about all the flashy bla bla bla and would rather not have it. I just need a place that I can view the local events and sell/buy airsoft guns. I would much rather have a site that is reliable then a site that is flashy.

I would much rather have a site that is reliable then a site that is flashy. The new site allows for different looks based on your preference so those who want a more modern look can have it and those who want it old-school can have that as well. In case this was missed, here is a picture guide on how you change themes. It's not finalized but for those who want a more updated look, that is available and here's how you get to it. Go to your profile and follow these steps: Click "modify profile" and then 'look and layout" Click "change" Scroll down and select the "cake" theme (don't ask me why its called cake cuz I don't know) Here's what that theme looks like:

I like the Cake theme but it definitely needs a new banner and maybe background in my opinion.

I'm open to suggestions, the banner is just one of knief's photo's of guys from Michigan I edited etc. And the background is just ACU I tiled to fit, but removed the color and darkened a little bit to make it match better with the other colors.

I'm with Knife on that. I personally love the "cake" theme in everyhting but the banner and background, like he mentioned. Another option I like on MiA is the "Recent Threads" button. All I can find on the new site is a "new posts" button... a button I never use over here. I prefer to see threads. Sorry for being such a stickler. But kudos to Luke and the other mods, I disagree with everyone else saying it looks ancient. It looks flashy enough, in my opinion.
Edit: Instead of ACU, why not a solid? I never liked camo backgrounds on forums, they give it so much of an n00b feel, if you can understand what I mean.

Right now there is a recent posts option at the bottom of the page but it lists full posts not threads. I'm working on getting recent threads working but so far I'm having some difficulty finding a way to do it. Seems to be a less common option on some forum software so there isn't allot of call for it so far but I'm still going to try and get it working since that's something I use as well.

Recent threads is honestly the only button I really ever use unless I'm purposely seeking out a specific post.

Why is cake not the default theme? It looks way better than the default right now.
