Modern M14 Loadout?

I've been reading up and have so far found out I'm going to have a hell of a time figuring out an authentic loadout for my M14. So i decided to get some help for you guys! I'm mainly looking to fill a DM role or something to that effect. I'm NOT looking for a Vietnam era loadout and mainly looking for something more modern and LIGHTWIEGHT. From what I understood from other threads the gun itself is not very authentic unless portraid as a M21 or EBR. So say my rifle is an M21, what should my loadout be?

As an M14 user, this topic interests me.

Lots of the use of M14's I've seen is when they were pulled from the back of unit lockers and given out as DM rifles... so, just about any scope would do, and pretty much a standard OIF loadout, possibly different ammo pouches.


'03-'04 standard gear... DCU's, woodland vest (doesn't especially look like an Interceptor, though), and the goggles make it clear that it's a fairly recent loadout.

Little more recent. Looks like he's using MOLLE II canteen pouches for magazines. I have a couple of those pouches, upon checking you can fit four mags per pouch.

Linked because it's a biggie. Significant variation on the Army loadout, this is from 2007, when the trials for new plate carriers were being done - likely that's the reason for the CB rig. Notice the large number of pistol/SMG magazines.

There's plenty of other nice ones that are easy to find on google. The BHD loadout's pretty popular, can't say I find it too stylish myself, but do what you need! I just run with a typical Alice/Pasgt/woodland rig and it works out alright.

I'm gunna be running an alice belt also so I might go with the BHD loadout. Plus I found an awsome loadout guide for shughart. I'm gunna look for more loadouts that feature the alice belt being that while I'm collecting other pieces for the loadout I can skirmish with the alice belt on supenders or an LBV. Do you know who used these ? And did they come from the early 90's also?

The FLC's were general issue in the late 90's to now - although often they're not used as the plate carriers already have PALS webbing installed, and didn't really make an appearance until about 2001. They're good kit for the price, though. You wouldn't expect to see them in conjunction with the Alice rig, they're meant to be a replacement, although early on a lot of Alice pouches were being used on the FLC (with mixed results).

Ok thanks for the help. I'd like to see if I can replicate the loadout from the first pic you supplied, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what he is wearing being you can onnly see the top of his gear.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain it's an interceptor. Found a few more pictures in a similar vein


Notice the magpuller, 100mph tape with a bit of 550 cord... I used to do something similar on my mags, but didn't realize it was a thing.


Definitely an interceptor vest in this photo. At least 3x M14 dual-magazine pouches - I've seen 'em on sale for about $30-40, which seems a little much, but worth it if you're going for the full impression.


Not many pouches here at all...



The cool thing about these impressions is you can switch to woodland camo and it'll look even better!

Are there other names for the interceptor? Because I cant find them. Also I would like to know what This guy is wearing.

Interceptor = IBA = OTV. I have no idea about that picture... kinda looks like an FLC with the belt reversed and drawn up like a chest rig... but no confidence in that answer. Too small to tell, really.

Looks more like a 2-piece MAV over a IBA.

Thanks for the help! I wish an IBA wasnt $200! I think I'm going to stick with the Early 90's loadouts being that I like the look plus they seem to be the cheaper option.

Psy is right. WL IBA, TT 2pc MAV and a slew of TT pouches. IBA's shouldn't be that expensive. I got my SDS one without the shoulder pieces or the collar from entrygear.com for like $80.

You may not see them issued to our service members in this color but the paint scheme is totally up to your preference. I do seem to see m14's painted up like this in quite a few video games though, take that however you will.

Found a decent picture of an issued m14 in green camo. Looks like the green would be most fitting in a 90's era loadout.

Nice Gun! And nice picture too! Looks like he is wearing the FLC, with an ALICE pouch or two on there, and some Molle too. Can anybody tell if he is wearing any kind of Body Armor/ PC? I could dig that loadout, Think Woodland BDU's would be accurate to swap in?
