SWAT A4, Nice job and thank you.
Pertinent information considering their use seems to be on the rise.

Great reviews Swat, thanks for all the information and the testing, I wear glasses and goggles and it sucks, I've always been curious about a wire mesh face mask, but I'll think twice after reading this, thanks again

I feel dumb as heck now wearing mesh. Thank you for the test (something I should have done LONG ago) and will throw mine away. +1

Thanks guys, Really glad to see the mature responses I got here, unlike other sites.... Arnies... I got bashed, and locked... ASR, I got flamed by some people. You guys understand that it is not for sure going to happen, but there's a very high chance it could cause damage. Many people don't want to believe this article, because they don't want to spend more money on a new mask. Again thanks for the kind words! I feel dumb as heck now wearing mesh. Thank you for the test (something I should have done LONG ago) and will throw mine away. +1 ^ That post right there is what made me happiest to see, that's why I wrote the article. Thanks. - Kev

SWAT, how long ago did you do this test? And did you ensure that the bb's were intact (i.e. not already cracked) before using them?

SWAT, how long ago did you do this test? And did you ensure that the bb's were intact (i.e. not already cracked) before using them? Jan 9th. And, yes... they were all fresh bb's. I wouldn't shoot cracked or damaged bb's. .12's break every time they hit just about, whether it was a small piece, or in half. The high quality .25's dented most of the time, a few chipped.

another alternative between the wire mesh masks and goggles is the JT proflex mask. Full face protection, no fogging up thanks to the thermal lens. Yes, I know that it's not really "mil-sim" but when it comes to eye safety, I don't compromise. Nice review.

Wow. After reading that test, I'm definitely not buying a wire mesh mask. I was thinking about making one before for a makeshift tester - but this covers it all.
Wiremesh = No Go.

I know a few snipers like Livonia and Tex use Mesh goggles, I think if your sitting way far off from the firefight these should be fine, considering your jute/burlap covers over one eye and the other is behind a scope anyways. But yeah seeing as I'm usually the crazy kid on the front line I'll stay away from these. Thanks

Great review, this helped a lot since I'm just getting in to airsoft and I still need to buy a mask or goggles. I was wondering how these masks were and now I don't have to worry about buying one of these mesh masks.
+1 dude

It's nice to see somebody actually taking the time to do a test such as this one. Well done.
I, too did a test of my own. Before I left for college, I hosted an airsofting match, and a few people wanted to use mesh...so, I tested them in the worst manner I could think of...I used .2 gram Killer Bees and shot the mask from 2 feet away with my upgraded SG-1...the mesh got so deformed that bb's started going through after 25 or so shots.
Needless to say, the mesh goggles were not allowed for use.
No pics and such as good as yours, but a story none-the-less.
