Yeah, if your weapon expands in the cold, then it is on a molecular level and will not harm your weapon at all. Only water expands in the cold. Metal and just about every other substance in existance contracts when cold. ;D

Oh, and I just wanted to say: remember kids it is very important to continue your education, even thou it is very very expensive. Never forget the Army is a great way to pay for the education you are seeking and even to pay back student loans. That's right the Army will even pay off your student loans. Not to mention all the other thousands of benefits that you may receive. So contact me, PFC Bowen your Grand Blanc (and MIA) US Army Recruiter. My phone number is: 1 (810) 252-4375 or you can also receive more information at: www.goarmy.comArmy Strong!

Nice plug there Bowen. However remember this. When storms shut down the entire force, we go out. When hurricanes ground the United States Navy, we go out. And when the Holy Lord himself reaches down from heaven and destroys His good work with winds that rip houses off the ground, we go out. -Guardian.So if you have the will to save other people, and dare to look our Holy Lord himself in the face of destruction, give us a call. If you don't have what it takes, then call Bowen. United States Coast Gaurd, no one else compares.

Michigan Air National Guard. One weekend a month, 2 weeks a year. As much as I like to see everyone rooting for their respective services, I think this thread is for the FSI monthly op on Feb 18. If I am mistaken, someone please direct me to the correct place.

(now it is just a matter of time until someone tells me that that's less than collage level information) The aluminum bodies of real-steel M4s and M16s are quite resistant to cold. Not so for the zinc-based "pot metal" bodies of Classic Army AEGs. Those bodies are die cast from powder mixtures at low temperatures because it's cheaper that way. When mixed in the liquid phase with other, higher-temperature alloying materials like aluminum and copper, zinc forms zinc oxide. The zinc oxide contaminants give pot metal gun bodies a large amount of porosity and brittleness (which also coincidentally gives those kinds of metal bodies their slightly greyish tinge when unpainted). So the combination of several different metals, a waste product, and trapped air all combine to expand and contract at different rates. Do enough rapid temperature changes with a pot-metal gun and it'll surely fail. This really only applies to zinc-alloy die cast gun bodies, not real steel, and not TOP SAWs, either. It's college, by the way.

Good show Doc and Allen, I love branch rivalry.
I'll see you there TMkid. Oh and your young friend borrowed a battery from Narcolepsy at OPSB and never got it back. Can you get that from him?

My inner barrel had to have shrunk a little bit because of the cold. I cant think of any way to explain what happened. After being out in the cold for about 4 hours, when i fired on full auto the bb's would instantly jam up, and I could still fire on Semi-auto just fine.
Later that night, I came home, let my gun sit in the house overnight and warm up. Next day, fires full auto just fine again.

I would think that if the barrel contracted from the cold, both semi-auto and full-auto shooting would result in a clog.

I'll be there. Possibly my uncle, too. Hopefully I can get someone to get one of my guns running correctly. Maybe 2 if my parts come in by then.

I should be attending, can't wait. Also if anyone has any STAR or MAG lowcaps or midcaps, that would be great if I could barrow them.
