I am trying to create an AUG H-Bar for the upcoming Event OP: RedOut, as some of you may know. Well, the particular Bi-Pod I am looking at for it runs really, really high money wise for real steel (north of $200 from what I have seen), so I thought I ought to look for possibly an Airsoft "substitute". So, looking through WGC Shop, I find this: Smokeys 2-Way Heavy Duty BipodThe Bi-Pod is still a little to pricey for me wanting to drop that kind of money on it. Plus it is out of stock anyhow. So, my question is, does anyone know where to find a similar looking Bi-Pod, for cheaper? Whether it be Real Steel or Airsoft, if you find it, I will make a way to mount it. Also, I have not been able to find that kind of Flash Hider (AUG HBar's) anywhere. It doesn't look like a normal AUG Flash Hider. I was going to get either a: G&G AK Flash Hideror Guarder SVD Flash Hider for AK47or Guarder HK53 Flash Hider for MC51That's if I couldn't find the one that's on an HBar.

You will almost definitely not find a real steel one for cheaper. Real M60 bipods cost a ton of money. I would seriously consider dropping the coin on the Smokey's if you can find it in stock somewhere.

Hmm, thought as much. I was thinking whether or not I should attempt making one in machine shop, but that's my last resort sort of thing.
Does anyone know where to find an AUG HBar Flash Hider (real steel)? And, if it would fit on my TM AUG? (I can't remember if Real Steel Flash Hiders can fit on TM Threads.) Or even the Airsoft counter part?

I can't find any good pics of the real flash hider but it kinda looks like an AKM flash hider or some other slant brake.

Here's a good pic: Rather cunning, I think! Good luck finding one. I know Boom Arms made an HBar kit for the Marui, but it's rare on the ground these days. [EDIT] Whoop! Found it in stock. 'Tis a bit spendy, though...[/EDIT] You know what the end of that barrel reminds me of? A thread tap. Get yourself a thread tap at the hardware store of roughly appropriate size, drill out the center, then attack it with a Dremel for about ten hours to smooth out the unwanted threads and to add the right grooves. It beats custom machining, but not by much!

Yeah, good luck on that one.

Hmm, well after doing some mooe research, I stumbled upon this website, that created an AUG HBar. www.dentrinity.com/ClarenceLai/hbaug.htmAs you can tell from the starting of the URL, Dentrinity hosted it, so I thought may as well look through Den. Well, to my suprise, they have two assembled HBars for sale (though both are out of stock, though both run $563 and $630). So I think I may try and get in contact with the guy who made all these custom guns, along with the Hbars (Clarence), and see if he could do the same for me. (create the parts and ship them out to me). Though, his last project was in 2000, so I doubt it, but I can't seem to find a way of contacting him anyhow. Thanks for everyone's help so far, I am going to look into everyone's ideas. More then likely, I am going to have to make some of this stuff in Machine Shop or something. Also, Enkidu, can you get me a picture of this "Thread tap"? I have never heard or seen one of these.

I'm bored, here ya go. This is what I would do. Get an orange M4 flashhider, fill the bastard full of bondo. Then go to town. If you've got the tools, you can create the same thing. Granted its not metal, but it's the look you are going for.

Though I do have some orange plastic Flash Hiders laying around. Also, I just sent an Email to those guys at www.gunsworkshop.net/ . I will update with what they email be back saying. I am going to start making the outer barrel in Machine Shop tomorrow, maybe even the Flash Hider.

I am going to start making the outer barrel in Machine Shop tomorrow, maybe even the Flash Hider. they're available at most good hardware stores... or should be. Craftsman makes some, so Sears might be worth a look. but good luck modding them! they're made to cut steel and are usually made of tungsten carbide or tempered martinsite steel. nothing you have will cut it. at least not with any sort of ease. www.natool.com/engdata/data09.php these are taps. you're going to need about a 15-20mm tap to get the right size, so that's some heavy duty cutting that will need to be done as those are solid cast chunks of steel or steel alloy. plus it will put a 2 pound weight on the end of your gun. edit: best bipod i found was a MG34 bipod for $125 www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php/products_id/756

Pshaw. A cutting torch would blaze right through that.

And my Machine shop has one of those! So, I am going to look into these "Thread Taps" and see what I can make out of them.

yeah, an acetylene torch would do....
it would cut right through it and leave a crispy edge that then needs to be machined off. then you need to chuck it into a lathe to take the threads off and probably burn up a tool or two doing that. then use any sort of high speed drill press you have and punch a 10mm hole through 3 inches of solid steel. then find something strong enough to bond the pound of steel to a plastic flash hider that won't dissolve the plastic.
if you do decide to go with the machining route, drill in steps (start with a center drill, move up a size, then another size) to save effort and time, and be sure to use plenty of cutting oil to not burn up whatever you're cutting with. if there isnt oil on hand, both motor oil and bacon grease will do.
putting a 1/4" hole through 5 inches of 1012L Steel was a bitch in itself, and that was a smaller hole with MUCH softer steel.
edit: on second though, call up a few local machine shops and see if they have any taps they would give to you. a lot of machinists will keep older, dull or broken tools until they find a use for them
