Well, it's the day after and I'm here at work tired as hell from lack of sleep. It was a long ride home.
Some of the highlights for me-
The night game was amongst the best I've ever played. Having a lit "city" to battle it out in was very cool. Room clearing is always exciting.
The American comander this year was full of personality. He added an entertaining quality to the American side that has been somewhat lacking in years past. He said he was going to be a bit like Patton and he was.
The refs were very fair in their enforcement of the rules from what I saw. They corrected rules infractions without being overly harsh, unless the situation called for it. Good job guys/gals.
Overall, the facility was one of the best I've been to. Bathrooms with running water, concessions, a decent area to camp, plenty of personel running around doing their jobs. We even had extra entertainment available in the form of people using the skate park.
Justin and his crew are amongst the nicest group of people you could ask for to run an event. They did an excellent job of bringing a very large group of airsofters and retailers together for a very successful two days of entertainment. Aggressive Sports is very well organized and experienced at pulling off an event of this magnitude.
The final battle was an excellent form of wrap up for the weekend. The ground chosen to fight on, the objectives, the respawn distances and rules, and the timeframe used were just about as perfect of a balance you could get to create an awesome game. Nice work.
Some suggestions for improvement for next year-
Myself and many others in my group were quite dissappointed that that the city and the armageddon area weren't at our disposal for use throughout the entire day. I understand the CPX needed an area for the paintballers to use while the airsofters were hogging their field, but it really took away from the airsofter's game. Without the city and Armageddon to use the woodland field felt very small with the amount of players we had. Commando manuevers into rear areas were very difficult, lines felt somewhat static, and objectives seemed "limited" to me. Use of the city and Armageddon would have completely changed that, in my opinion.
I know you guys have to have the full face covering rule for insurance purposes or maybe you're just extremely safety consious, but the full face covering rule still sucks all the same in my opinion. Might not be so bad if the game were held in cold weather season. Paintball masks really take away from the fashion show too. Just doesn't satisfy the realism freak in me.
While the strafer was an interesting addition to the game, it definitely had an effect on play balance, and it was a safety hazzard in my opinion. There needs to be some serious thought put into its use. With the volume of fire that thing puts out it needs to be used only by a person well known to be responsible and placed in a stationary position where the likelyhood of a person being hit at close range is minimized. Having it mobile was a bad idea in my opinion. Especially when there is a grassy ridge well known to be a close contact area involved. I think my friend CIGAR will agree, since it litteraly made him bleed when he was shot numerous times by it in the face at close range. If that thing had been placed in the upper level window of a building it would nearly eliminate the chance of being hit at close range and still provide effective suppressing fire.
A few small complaints about the facilities-
Somebody needs to check the bathroom every couple hours for cleanup. It was a disaster much of the time.
Somebody needs to stay on top of supply for the consessions. For a menu that only has about 10 things total on it, they shouldn't run out of anything.
The camping area could have used some shade trees and a shorter route to the staging area.
There needs to be more staff in the chrono area at the beginning of the day for the volume of players. Lines were excessively long, in my opinion. There were only 2 refs chronoing even though there were 4 chronos available. Doesn't make much sense to me.
On another note-
In my experience there are a few things that can't be contolled very effectively in games as large as this one. There are going to be cheaters, whether it's inadvertent or not. No amount of refs can control it. It has to do with the caliber of player attracted to the game. With any game as large as this one you're going to get a broad range of players. There's a lot of new guys out there who haven't learned to effectively call their hits. Maybe they're overly excited, maybe they don't recognize the sound of a bb hit, or they think a hit is a ricochet when it's not. It happens. Get over it and quit your bitching guys. Bitching does not improve the quality of the game, unfortunately.
Mad props go out to-
The Cartel player who infiltrated the rear area of Armageddon and collapsed the entire American defence from behind with knife kills. I hate you, but you're awesome at the same time. You have my vote for MVP, Cartel side.
The American Team for finally finding their spirit and pulling off their first win in three years.
America, FUCK YEA!
Thanks again to Justin and all the others who made it happen. Myself and many others appreciate the work you put into it to make it successful!
