On a stock gun?
Any magnification is too much. You don't have the range to need it, and all it's going to do is narrow your field of vision. Your AEG simply isn't accurate enough in a stock form to necessitate any sort of magnification.

I have to disagree with you there Xaos.
I have owned two AUGs over the past year. My first AUG had my Tanaka M700's 3x-9x 40mm scope on it, and I was able to see my BBs through my scope up to I think 6x. I was highly suprised in my first game with it. So, there are exceptions to the rule.

Yes, I'm with Andrew on this one as well, my stock mp5 has a 3x zoom, and it's perfect for me. You can see your bb's fly, and i have it set so it stays in the crosshair, with the hopup adjusted right, and then it just falls, it doesnt get lost or anything, I know where you are getting that from, my whole team doesnt use scopes, even the ones with them on their guns, but i have spent about an hour adjusting my hopup, scope, and laser, to all be about dead on for what i need.

I can see my BBs just fine without a scope, and I maintain peripheral vision and a full field of view. Can you say the same when using your optics? I think not.
As far as a sighting aid is concerned, I maintain that it's not necessary. If you know how to use your iron sights (and let's be honest here, most people don't), then that's plenty enough at the ranges for stock guns.
Of course, this is all opinion. I know that I'm a fairly capable shooter, know how to use my iron sights, and have practiced enough that I'm much quicker with iron sights (or a red dot) than I am with any sort of magnified optics. Maybe it's different for someone else, I don't know, because I'm not someone else. I just can't justify spending money on a piece of gear that I'll find largely useless once it's bolted on to my rifle.

If anything I'd put a cheap (moneywise), like a used scope on my gun. I would probably only use it for scouting, identifying that blurry figure hiding in the bushes. For a full out firefight, I don't think it'd be too much use. But it is much nice to use a scope for scouting, than to have to drag bino's along with you.

Well, Talon that scope mounted above your Iron-Sights can make it harder to actually shoot using them irons. On some weapons you can not actually mount a scope with out it blocking your Iron-Sights.

If you did your home work ,you would know that Talon is a experienced operator. Currently in Iraq.

i have to agree with xaos and talon, other than a sniper rifle (or another rifle used in that role) there is just no need for a scope with any magnification. damn, i'm almost 50 years old, wear bifocals (contacts when in goggles) and i can see my rounds just fine and at airsoft distances, the iron sights work dandy if you just learn to use them. i've toyed with putting one of my red dots that are usually kept on the real steel stuff i own , on one of my airsoft HK's but the idea of an errant 6mm taking out the lens of my holosight or $400 aimpoint is just sick and wrong!! i do sometimes carry a small pair of bino's in my vest but most of the time things just move too fast to pull them out so i usually just follow "murphy's rules for grunts #15 " that states"when in doubt, empty the mag!" ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Guys in vietnam would put their guns around the corner without even looking and fire a whole MAGAZINE. Does that mean it is correct practice?

OK ,that damn argument again. All of you can fiddle-fart around with terms all you want.Everybody knows mag/clip same thing. A scouts job is to find, to recon and infiltrate.Find out how many opposition, equipment, assault weapons and there strength.Optics work wonders. With airsoft its not needed nor does it make it more accurate.Just another way to seek out the tango's.I do like cantilever mounts. So it doesn't interfere with iron sights.
Not that it matters but operators in Theater (now and in the past)never called there weapons/weapon systems a gun(see full-metal jacket...movie). As for firring around the corner its called suppressive fire.If you ever put your ass on the line like they do and we have then. You might consider doing what ever you can ,to survive.Necessity is the mother of invention and coming home.
