I hated Marpat at first. Then I saw people wearing it at First Strike and realized it works very, very well. I will reserve judgement on the Army stuff until I see it in the woods, too.

It looks like they tried to do a combo desert/woodland type sceme but failed ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) ,have to see it in person though .and digital is much better at blending in....like the pockets and stuff bout time they catch up with the brits ... Yep just read its to replase wood/desert ,its has green, tan and grey for urban ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) .Has a zipper and velcro instead of buttons

Photography can be tricky with this stuff unless they carefully correct for the color of the light. Flash turns stuff blue and washes it out, incandescant makes it look reddish, and fluorescent makes it look greenish but distorts other colors. Someone put up a pick on Lightfighter that made it look much more greenish, perhaps enough to be plausible.
Some tan colors also tend to pick up a lot of color from their surrounding. The old Brigade Quartermaster ASAT pattern worked on that principle. The new Army stuff might look a lot greener out in the woods.

These are mainly just prototypes, I'm sure the end product will look pretty good... but.. danm that Airforce uniform is ugly as hell... is it like blue tiger camo mixed with a hawiian shirt... hmm>?

the slanted pockets are a great improvement over reaching your hand across your chest and bending your hand downward. when you can just reach straight across your chest into your pocket. velcro stays attached better than a button that can be ripped off and lost.

Velco is also noisy and doesn't hold as well as a button. I'd rather have the buttons on the pockets.
Nothing like the rip of velcro to get someone killed.

Here's a better pic, better at least than the other gray tinted pics ![](http://www.theregimenthq.com/images/20040614213909990002.jpg) Judging from this pic, the camo scheme looks like it will probably work well, though it does seem awfully light for it to be a "jack of all trades" pattern.

Considering our main theatre of operations will be the Mideast for the foreseeable future, and they wanted a single pattern for logistical reasons, the lighter shade makes sense to me............... I take it the fish gun is now a go? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Velcro isnt that loud compared to a mag change, bolt closing,ect...and military velcro is very strong stuff on my new raid bdus the pockets are kinda tough to open.Buttons are good but you cant workem with one hand.

One thing I just read on RR...the new uniforms have pockets for Knee- and Elbow pads. Nice touch. Overall, I like the way it looks...they put some good thought into arranging the pockets, though velcro closures isn't the best choice, IMO. Still waiting to see how the pattern holds up, though.
Netrix - magnets...that's a pretty good idea. Some small, thin rare earth magnets sewn into the pockets would probably do a great job of both securing the pockets, and staying quiet when needed. Might have to give that one a try.

One thing I just read on RR...the new uniforms have pockets for Knee- and Elbow pads As do the Digital Marine Pattern shirt and pants. As far as not being able to operate buttons with one hand, perhaps your old fogey hands ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) don't grant you enough dexterity to so, however, it's not really difficult to button and unbutton with one hand. I do feel however, that the WWII vintage "lift the dot" snaps would've worked better than even buttons or velcro, but alas, I don't work at the Natick Labs.

I hope they change the color of the Name/US Army/Rank patches, because those things stick out like sore thumbs against the camo. However it could be the lighting making the camo appear lighter. I also agree on the velco, unless it's extremly durable and effective, it seems really "iffy" to me.
Wearing a uniform that contrasts itself is not a good thing, and I hope it's just the picture that makes it look like that.
And the picture from the article (the urban camo) looks like something out of Starship Troopers. Ack.

I take it the fish gun is now a go? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Yea i was watching somethin on the History Channel saying on future designs and how a multi-purpose weapon like the fish gun does not have one great thing on it just a bunch of OK things on it.
