Ok, let me rephrase,
If you are not playing on land owned by you, then you need to get permission from the owners of the land, in this case, the State Park Office.

No, you don't get it. It is State land, you don't need permision from anyone to go play out there, it's owned by the state and anyone can go on it, anytime. You could go out there just to pinch-a-loaf for all they care. About the only thing you can't do, well, let me rephrase that, the only thing they wouldn't want you doing is dumping your garbage out there...

I dont know where you got that, but that is NOT true. There is no where in the United States where you can go and do anything you want, even your own property. That land is owned by the state, therefor, legally, they are responisble for what happens on it. If that land is open to the public for recreation, such as hiking, hunting or 4 wheeling, then Airsoft could create a dangerous situation for those not involved, or even for yourself.

Just doing a little bit of research, there are quite a few restrictions on activities on State land. www.midnr.com/index.aspContains most of the info you need, you need a permit to even camp on state land, that certainly doesnt sound like a "free for all" to me. We all need to lookout for the future of Airsoft in our own states, as well as in the US. Responsible, mature airsofting is the key.

Loc - I appreciate your concern, and I'm not fond of media, so your sentiments are well placed, however.....
PimP is kinda' right, and so are you. It is State Land. It is open to the public for many things, including hunting and target practice (in approved areas). It is not necessarily "park land" per se as one might define a park. As well, I am familiar with the link you provided and have utilized it for research in the past. As well, before our last skirmish I called local law enforcement asking about using the land for "a paintball-type game utilizing air-powered weapons", and they referred me to the DNR for advice & authorization. I spoke with the commanding officer on hand at TC's DNR, told him we would like to use the area to play airsoft, explained it briefly, and was granted permission along with the comments that "others are using it for that, so why not" + "be very careful around hunting season". I wrote his name down as well as time & date and stuck it in my airsoft stuff (which I've spent a bunch of time going thru, but now cannot find the piece of paper) and off we went to play.
I'm allowed to hunt out there and go plinking with my 9 year old, as well as many other things, as well as many other residents of MI. I'm sorry you were told no for use of Public land in Ohio, but I was granted permission to use this area and will seek permission again if OP: Northern BLAST is to occur, and will most probably seek it in writing. As well, I may invite some LEO's to attend & borrow a gun or two (at which point we may all get waxed royally by a pro) just so everything is on the up & up and we have "them" on our side.
Newman - your comment was a humorous, yet low blow inferring some of us enjoy the herb and are not thinking because of it. I can think poorly without mental distraction, as can all of us. I'm too lazy to spell a full word out. Please mock me. don't open up that can of worms again, you know where I stand and I WILL take the time and keystrokes to discuss it (but not on this thread). PimP - Easy big fella, easy, whoa there. Appreciate your support and your thoughts (albeit also with humor and some merit) but remember - tread softly, speak calmly, use your sights to acquire an effective one-shot, and S-Q-U-E-E-Z-E the trigger.
OK, now back to who can attend!

Personally currently I view Jack as a very responsible and mature airsoft player. I have faith that he has taken the necessary steps to make this skirmish “safe”

Definitely agree with Viking on that one, JackStraw seems to be able to handle it. ;D The comment was just a joke, and I do like opening lots o' worm cans.

Jackstraw, thats great, and in no way did I mean to infer that you were not mature and responsible. ;D I also did not mean to say you were NOT allowed to play there, but rather, I wished to relate my own experiences with state officials just so you would know what to possibly expect upon contacting them. And mainly I wanted to be sure that it just wasn't "assumed" that you could play there because it was state land, as pimp sort of implied with his comments. Wasn't try to be an ol' stick in the mud, but I guess you can just call me paranoid. So now that we have that out of the way, game on! ;D

After much thought, review of past March weather and looking at long range forecasts, it very well could be cold and ugly up here in mid-March during Spring Break time. Many that are interested in this "mission" are viewing Spring Break as the best time, and this may be true from a vac pt. of view, but I can assure you it very possibly could be miserable up here at that time.
I'd prefer to plug this mission into a wknd in late-March/early-April. I'm truly sorry, but I want you all to have a good time, be able to use your guns as they were meant to fire, and not freeze your BB's off in the cold slop of Northern MI. Hope that does not dampen too many spirits, but I have a strong suspicion the weather in mid-March would. We're still short some people anyhow. I'm hoping for 12 - 18 players in order to keep team size decent, costs down, and to make things like the BBQ and raffle worthwhile.
