I'm sure I'm not the only one who has/had this trouble with their parents about airsoft.
Basically I want to know if anyone has had any specific things to help get parents off your back about airsoft. I feel like large OP:Irene video's give off the wrong feel to parents.
Example of my problem: I recently went out and bought $300 of car audio equipment, no problems. I also just bought $90 of airsoft stuff and it's like the world has come to an end.
(Please avoid fighting(or starting fights/baiting) in here I want this to be a helpful thread for me and others who have this problem).
Edit: Before it comes up yes I know there is a search function as this has probably been brought up before, but you try using the search function to find anything.

Try and get them to come play with you. I went through the same thing, but I had income, so there wasn't much they could do, or just don't tell them how much you are spending.

See I too have a job, I make and spend my own money. Normally she has no clue what I buy or sell. The problem arose when airsoft atlanta screwed me over by shipping me a package and saying someone 21+ has to sign it to obtain it.

The best solution is to invite your parents (usually dad, but it could be either/both) to come out to a game with you. It really helps for them to meet the community and see that we're not a bunch of Michigan Militia weirdos. The Hellfish event this February would be perfect for that, I'm not saying that to whore ourselves out. It's held at a paintball park, which gives it a feel of legitimacy that playing in, say, the SFOD back yard field doesn't. We run very new player oriented games so we go over a lot of the basic rules and we try to keep things pretty clean and fun. The player base is also pretty diverse, ranging in age from as young as 12 up to folks in their thirties and forties, so they'll see that it's not just some kids messing around, but it's also not out of your league, so to speak.
Get them out to a legitimate game, even if its not ours, and you'll change their minds.

The absolute best thing you can do is get them to a game. Try and do a smaller one, so they don't get too overwhelmed by the whole "war game" thing. My parents used to get into my shit all the time about it. Then they finally showed up to an event. I slapped an orange vest on my old man, put a camera in his hands and he wandered out with me. He had a blast, just watching us do our thing. Completely changed their outlook of airsoft. Now he even tells other people about it, and for a while I was even getting the "You're not going to an airsoft gaem this weekend?", from mom and dad when I didn't go sling plastic.

Going to games is your best bet like everyone has already mentioned.
Another thing to maybe consider is almost all the major retailers and event organizers typically have a section on their website titled "What is airsoft" Might be worth taking a look to see if that could maybe educate them.

I showed my parents a couple of videos from smaller games as well as closer to home games and that convinced them.

Invite them to a game is the best option.
A power point presentation would be a second option if your parents are still unsure about it and if you want to go that far to convince them.

Yea I just brought it up to my mom and asked what she thought it was, the response was what I expected. "You go out in the wood and run around and shoot people." So I definitely might have to get them out to a game if it's a hellfish game they won't be allowed out of the car until after kniefs done briefing.

they can be there for the briefing. It would actually help since we go over safety stuff.

Yea but the last briefing had quite a long section that went something like this, "we need you to deface these posters, if you suck at drawing you can always revert to drawing dicks make sure these are at least good dick drawings."I found it hilarious, my mom probably wouldn't. Although the safety aspect would ease some worries.

Ah that. The one coming up will not have any of that unless people wanted to make giant penis snow men which I highly doubt but I could be wrong.

But I was looking forward to defacing Iranian propaganda . On topic: when I went to my first No Limits game my dad stayed the whole time to see what the sport is like. He has since then considered Knief as "The Ringleader" .

No Limits is a little different environment. They won't even let me yell "fuck" there, so I've made it a point to keep it family friendly there. Plus, there's a good chance that I won't be able to make this next one, so ARC, who is far less of an asshole than myself, will be briefing.

Just my 2 cents worth. Being a field owner I see the confusion on parents faces. Explaining it to them really helps, I also try to get them into.the game. Usually those 2 things work the best and the parents start playing as much as their kids. Us airsofters just need to take the time and explain the great reasons for airsoft. Just my 2cents.
