Viking’s Russian Gear As I have been mentioning on a few threads the last two weeks I have started collecting myself a Spetsnaz getup. Which is the Russian elite Special Forces unit. Here are a few pictures of what I have so far. The camera I am using is shot, and it replaces a lot of greens with browns and reds on the vest and on the cap, these do not exist, while there are some browns on the vest they are settle, the cap is a OD green color. Damn camera. Anyway, I am no where close to being done, I should be receiving a lot more of my collection this week before the game, but I now have the bulk of it so I wanted to go out and take some photos. All the patches and what not are in Russian, I was going to take pictures of them but I need to get to the hobby shop real quick here before they close to get some oil for my rifle. I might take them tomorrow or the next day, if not the ones coming to the game on Sat will see their beauty. What I have so far is: 1 Russian OHOM (swat) Urbane uniform, 1 Russian Original Scorpion Uniform (used in the Afghan war), 1 Russian Scorpion Assault Vest. Also note the long flash hider now on my AK47, soon I will also have a bipod on it. Anyway on with the pics, damn my camera sucks now. I must say the stuff looks a lot better in person, but the pics look cool too I guess.

Sweet stuff Viking! I bet you were freaking hot wearing all that gear and the hat. Oh, and do me a favor.... don't take any more pics of you holding onto your gun by the magazine, I have nothing else to say. That's my biggest gripe with almost every picture I see of people posing with their airsoft guns, they all hold onto the mag like it's a grip. At least I don't have to worry about anyone doing that to my AUG, hehe.

You lucky sonofa... Even with the camera messing up the colors for you it still looks GREAT. And like you said earlier: "Once you see it you'll want a set for yourself". I DO! The flashhider on the AK looks sweet too! Can't wait till Saturday so I could see all the gear with me own eyes. Edit: Woohoo@same post time. And about that whole using the magazine as a grip gripe you've got Minky, I too felt it was an odd thing to do at first. However over the past couple of months I've gotten quite used to it and it feels a little more natural for me. It's not only us airsofters that do it either, in the new SWAT magazine even the real deal fellas tend to hold them that way. PS: Viking gimme thy camo!

Hado speaks the truth, even the real deal guys hold the magazine some times, there’s nothing wrong with it, and it’s just a relaxed way of holding you rifle. However Minkster, I wasn’t holding the mag, it’s the camera angle, though I hold the grip right up tot eh mag and my bottom fingers rest on the mag, so one might get that illusion. Extending your arm to hold the front AK grip would be way to difficult for me, maybe not for a big fella like bigmack though.
<EDIT>The top picture I post is a good way to understand how I hold my gun, I use my thumb and index finger on my left hand to grip right behind the front fore grip on the gun, with the rest of my fingers just kinda stabilizing the gun by using the mag. The gun is just to long and heavy to hold it how they designers intended.
Hado!! I don’t know what you did but that’s pretty much the EXCAT color of the cammo!! Now the cap and vest are still brown for some reason but oh well, the cammo looks like it does up close.

Viking you look badass. I remeber watching one of those Russian SWAT teams doing a take down on a bus, on World's Scariest Police Chases or something. I finally got to play with an AK today wow you are a lucky man. I hold it the same way you do. The only two things I dont like on the AK are the iron sites, and how far up the foregrip is. I think my next buy will be an AK47s.

Sick, the iron sights grow on ya, ya either love them or hate them, and I personally love them. The only problem I have with the iron sights is that they are totally ineffective in the low light to dark environments. But that’s all okay, hence I also have a Russian night vision scope coming in the mail shortly (thanks for the refer Hado, BTW) and they also make aftermarket night sights for the AK which I might also pick up when I get some money back in the bank, I have spent way to much money the last week or so. I think the forward fore grip was intend to help control the recoil of the rifle when using the real steel, making it kinda odd for us airsofters.

No, its looks like a well… box hehe. It’s not a big expensive NV scope, it’s a NV sight that is mounted by an AK mount, pretty much the same ol rail on a modded top receiver shell. Personally I don’t plan on mounting it to my AK, but rather get a head set to mount it too, they have some nice helmet less ones for hunters I am looking into.
<EDIT> Ah ballista where did your post go?!

Eek! Thought I took it away fast enough... After I posted, I realized that you were talking about a monocular, not a rifle scope. Either way it's gonna be cool to see.

Very cool, Viking, very cool. How much was that NV scope, anyhoo? It sounds totally tight, and totally expensive. ;D I'm diggin' the hat, dude.

I like the bennie too; the color is nice and goes more with the Russian theme hence their climate is a bit cooler then ours. With all my gear on it was hot but nothing I can’t handle, living in hot weather all my life I have a pretty high heat tolerance. I am working on getting a camelback into one of the pocket son the back of the vest though that is when I have money again. Tomorrow I should be receiving this in the mail: Weather or not I use it we will see, I seem to buy a lot of stuff I don’t actually use… woodland ranger cap… woodland real steel pot helm… etc. This though might come in handy in games, not only on the face but I can pull it out and use it as a mini ghillie for an ambush, its 3x6 feet in size, pretty big.

For a good read on what Spetsnaz is check out this article. They basically perform the same operations as our Green Berets and Delta but do to the shattered economy held back in their capabilities. Got to love a spec ops unit that specializes in assassinations eh?

I just have one thing to say...
Anyone who has shot a real AK47 isn't going to hold the magazine. (It bothers me too)

Hmm well I can testify I have seen people at my local gun range just a couple weeks ago with Aks firing with the same exact position I was holding my gun in those shots. I don’t know if you call that holding the magazine or not but either way, the placement of the fore grip on the ak47 is very user-unfriendly for the average sized man. That’s why god created a special group of historical people whom created such weapons like the M16, M4 and Mp5, to do exactly the opposite of what the Russian engineers did. Cheers. ;D <edit> To my knowledge Ballsita owns an AK and both him and Hado have fired it, care to pitch in a penny here and there o’ great ones with many hairs on thy faces? <edit2> Lastly a picture of a Spetsnaz operative from the werewolf district. Need I say more?

I found it rather unstable in a firing position of holding the magazine. In both the pics of Viking and the Spet. the weapon is being held by the grip (low with a couple of fingers on the Mag) and not the Magazine alone. I have a personal preferance against holding any weapon just by the Mag. I was agreeing with Minky on that, and wasn't saying anything against Viking's style. I have worked with Viking and found no problems with him or his shooting style.
