You don't *need* a tac vest. ALICE gear, LBV's, and several other setups provide perfectly good options. If all you're looking for is something to hold your pistol, pick up a pistol belt and a holster. Make sure the holster is designed so that it will fit a Glock 17 (same size frame as the G18C, but much more common). Don't go cheap on holsters, they're the only thing between you and $100+ of lost pistol.
As far as exactly what to get and where to get it, there's tons of stuff out there, and tons of reviews and other resources to help you decide. Do some research on your own, and make an informed decision.

once upon a time someone that was really really bored (or payed well or something) made a website, that website is know as www.google.com , it is helpful because it enables you to actually look around on the web for desirable items, wow, magical i know i would suggest going to any local military surplus stores, they usually carry holsters, usually the holsters list what weapons fit in them, if not you can ask the store owner as well edit: my bad

Army/Navy surplus stores might have it. BUT, if you want to save some money, you can use cargo shorts/pants for a holster, and if you take the strap from an old duffel/gym bag you've got yourself a pretty nice sling (worked for me just fine)
