depends on the AK you're getting.
Full stock (Standard and Beita) use 8.4v large batteries.
retractable stock (AK-47S) uses the AK stick.

...and what has an H after the W. "wat" is not a word.
Please read the forum rules if you think I'm being an asshole (Honestly, I am, but I'm grumpy this morning, sue me.).
To answer your question...what Bigmack and Knief said, with the additional choice of Airsoft Elite BB's.

You also could venture out and use .23's or possibly .25's for windy conditions... you'll sacrafice some range, but they'll shoot straighter. I always keep a few of each weight around for varying conditions.

Actually...according to the research (albeit rather unscientific) done by Pikachoad and SLB of AirsoftPlayers, you really don't lose any *effective* range using .25's...or even .30's.
Heavier bb's are more expensive though, keep that in mind.

.20 BBs= just plain spraying .30 BBs= accuracy
I have found that .3 BBs in a dark color are very nice for shooting accuratly at people when you don't want them to know where you're shooting from
I have an AK47 S and I found that a 1000mha battery was best, airsoft arms carrys them but you have to ask for it
