I am truely new in this field. I have my own rifles and shotguns and such for hunting but I know absolutely nothing in the way of airsoft. I've read through numerous posts and it seems that there are some of you who are giving honest advice, and that's what I need not some sales person trying to sell me an overpriced p.o.s. and then regretting it later. Also if there are any groups which take part in events around the Ann Arbor area could you please contact me as I am looking to play this in a more organized manner. Thanks for your time. Caleb

Any specific model/type of gun you're interested in? If you're starting out with an AEG (the staple of airsoft weapons, what the majority use for gaming) stick with Tokyo Marui. They have a proven track record for reliability in stock form, and offer the most variety for rifles/SMGs. If you want to get a gas pistol, there are a lot more manufacturers compared to AEGs, so it would help to list what guns you're interested in and then narrow it down from there. Springers tend to be pretty much the same, with Tokyo Marui, KWC, and UHC tending to be the higher quality spring guns. If you haven't already, read through this: miairsoft.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=newb&action=display&n=1&thread=7295As for Ann Arbor players, you're in luck! There is a group of players from Ann Arbor and Saline who play pretty regularly called FLAG. Contact Newman or jdl_9th here on the MiA forums, or check out their forums at newman.proboards4.com/ . Other than that, research, research, research until you find a gun you like. Oh, and welcome to the boards. This post will probably be moved to the newbie forum (no offense ) since it's too general to be here in the Commerce section. Once you get some specific gun ideas in mind, a wanted ad for them will get better results.

Moved it is. That's always a good thing to remember. In your search, take any reviews from reatilers with a grain of salt. You'll net the best results by going to a major forum (www.airsoftohio.com www.airsoftplayers.com and vettaserv.pct.net/aszone/ ). Utilize their search functions (they are all a lot better than the problards search function) to find the best answers. remember, most people are full of shit, so read as many reviews on your selelcted gun as you can. When you use more than one source (hopefully like 5 or 6), then you get the best info. Then, head over to your favorite internet search engine, be it google, yahoo, or whatever and just type in the name of your gun. There are tons of indepentent hobbyist sites that don't get enough attention, but that have great reviews. After you've got all that information, you shouldn't need to ask any questions about guns. There's enough informaton out there to make a decision on what works for you. And in all honesty, the thread that Minky linked you to is probably the most important airsoft related article you'll ever read. It's long, but important. Get a nice comfy chair, a pop and some chips and just start reading. First, narrow it down to what category you want (If you come play with FLAG, then you'll be able to see all of the various types in action (except gas, it's too cold right now for them to work), that will help you choose. After you decide what type you want, you'll have to decide on a look. Just know that there is no "best" gun of any genre.

Riven, this thread is massively old. Don't revive dead threads, because after this, bait and I will be posting all sorts of pictures telling you in very unpolite (Though hee-larious) ways.
