Report - MISSION FAILURE
Our employers sent us the objective of securing a plutonium rod and a Nuclear Warhead... They also informed us that other merc teams would be in the area and that we would suredly have contact quickly.
We inserted via helio into a densly forested area... Knowing that our objective was not far off, We began to plan our rush. While we were planning, we were also waiting for the diversionary attack being executed by our other squad. At about 1000 hours, we heard a loud explosion in the distance - Our cue to get a move on.
Our plan quickly went to shambles as we encountered our first enemy of the day - Saplings. They heavily impeded our progress moving towards our objective. In the distance, we began hearing the sounds of gunfire - Our enemies were fighting already! No worries for us, That'll just make them weaker for when we get there!
After moving through the brush, we came into a relatively clear hardwood area. We began seeing movement, so our squad took cover. One enemy came just a bit too close, and we had to engage him. He fell in my first burst of fire for the day. As we began moving through the hardwood area, We caught sight of yet more movement in the distance. We were able to I.D. the squad as Socom - A capable group of mercenaries from the south. As we began maneuvering for the coming contact, they began firing at us... We started a simple flanking maneuver, When suddenly I hear "ugh, hit low!" From Trauby's Position. The next few minutes are a blur, as we switched from Socom to an unidentified tango in the brush. After Socom retreated, some of their members vanquished, We moved towards the objective area - Only to find that we had been beaten to it! We then moved back to the east, attempting to chase down the objectives - At the time, we thought that Socom had grabbed them and were moving towards their LZ.
How wrong we were.
We had moved about 100 yards from the objective when we began taking fire. My squad covered, and we began forming a thinly spread firing line. We were able to I.D. the attackers as Detachment Delta - Quite the adversary! We began another flanking maneuver, with a thinly spread line. Luckily, Xaos managed to eliminate the lone sniper - The same sniper who sent 3 shots rather close to my head (That whirring sound is rather.... disheartening). As we began to advance and flank, more enemies fell. In the most intense firefight of the day, Much of the enemy squad had fallen, with only a few escaping.
After securing the area, We again began to move towards the enemy's LZ. As we neared a stand of pine, Voices could be heard in front of us. Little did we know, Geist Kompanie, a Germanic group, was lieing in ambush waiting for us to move into range. Luckily, we had stopped and tried to I.D. the voices. As we began to move into the ambush, We heard voices over our radio that indicated we had failed our mission. Detachment Delta had escaped with the missile AND the plutonium. The only justice was that they extracted with only a few of their elite squad left alive.
