Hello, I am IllusiveO. I am new to this forum and pretty new to airsoft. My friend got me a mystery box off Evike and it was a G&G Cm16 Carbine. I have several questions about this gun and what I can do to improve it to make it last.
1.) What internal upgrades are a MUST? I am not looking to completely replace the gun's stock parts, but what should I really consider?
2.) Is there a TBB for this and should I get one? if so, what are some good recommendations? I want accuracy because I will be playing outdoors mostly.
3.) As for the gun itself, is there a RIS conversion for this gun? I would like to put some sort of fore grip and may some other attachments on it sometime.
4.) And finally, is this gun any good? I have seen mixed opinions on it and don't know if I should sell it and invest into a slightly better gun, or if I should try to make it better.
If anyone could answer my noob questions, that would be awesome. Thanks

1.) Off the bat no internal upgrades come to mind. Others however probably have some idea of what you could do internally.
2.) Assuming you ended up with the AEG version then any and all TBB would work in the M4 just make sure you get the correct length. Promethius (spelled that wrong) barrels are always good barrels when looking at accuracy. At least from what I've seen/heard.
3.) Again if you have the AEG version then most RIS should work with your gun. I'm not that big of an expert in the area of RIS.
4.) All G&G CM (Combat Machines) are good starter guns. Many people here have had one at one point our another.
Hope this all helps you some. Oh and if you don't know any field to play at look in the airsoft events section to find a good game to go to.

Internally wise, I'm not a fan of the bushings(generally pretty soft but do the job). They are 8mm but not really that crutial unless you plan to have perfect shimming.
But other than that, no 'upgrades' per se, but getting it properly tuned is a good idea, such as correcting the Angle of Engagement, shimming, and lubing.

Thanks for the input, I'm really looking forward to getting a great experience out of this gun!

I am not looking to completely replace the gun's stock parts, but what should I really consider? I would consider the basic mods to be "musts." Shim the gears and correct motor height, set proper piston angle of engagement, and maybe even radius the gearbox shell. After that, look into perfecting the compression. If you don't know what any of that means, feel free to ask. There are also many guides all over the internet. And, because I actually made this one (shameless advertisement here), here's a video shimming guide: G&G replicas are good intermediate-level guns.

From what I've heard, combat machines are pretty reliable and solid stock. I wouldn't open it up internally until something breaks (it's easy to mess something up the first time you disassemble it).
If you want better effective range, I'd say a Madbull 6.03mm barrel and Maple Leaf bucking should do the job.
What Stinger said is very correct though, if you want to get higher performance those mods are a must.

I would ignore what others have said and just upgrade the barrel and Hopup. I would recommend either a madbull black python or maybe a steel evike brand barrel with a nice bucking(I've actually first hand seen very good results with the g&g green bucking). With those two upgrades i'd also replace the spring on the Hopup with orings. A great tech did this to a gun before I got it from him and I'll never go back to the shitty little pen spring that comes on them. Ampedairsoft.com has them but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere too.
This is all my opinion mind you. I just think opening up a brand new g&g is kinda pointless.

I just think opening up a brand new g&g is kinda pointless. That's probably pretty true. Keep in mind that most of us giving advice here are all decently experienced techs. As experienced techs, we tend to open up pretty much everything when we first get it to check things out. When I get a new gun, I use it quite a bit during the warranty period and then open it once the warranty expires. People with less experience should wait until there is a really compelling reason to do something. But, do what you want. It's the best way to learn, and there's plenty of people here that will help you out if you mess something up.

Thanks for the advice. My friend did just a little internal work on his and I didn't know if I should too. I just want some good range and solid FPS I guess. Thanks for being so helpful.

The spring will most likely settle within the 340fps range. That's the best of both worlds, your near the limit for CQB but still have enough for field, so you can play both without much effort to make sure your within regs.
