So, I made every newbie mistake that there is last fall when I decided after 2 years of waiting, I was going to finally get into airsoft officially. As I stated, mistakes were made. I had been enthralled by the tails of sniper rifles... And I need your help... I bought a utg mk96, a ghillie suit, a woodland vest, multicam(Which in my defense was recommended by a friend cause that's what his team wears primarily), and an OD green battle belt and full rig to go with it ( which isn't a bad purchase in my opinion, I honestly like having a light rig.)
My problem now comes from this, I have invested some serious money into the OD coloring scheme, and the sniper role as a whole with the ghillie suit and ammunition. I don't know if I should turn back now, or commit 100%. I have used my gun in 2 skirmishes, and it is accurate up to about 160ft, the hop up isn't consistent/ I just can't get it tuned in on a non windy day. I Have all the upgrades picked out, and they would total somewhere around $300 ish . Should I put that towards new gear and a new gun, maybe save up more? I know tons and tons about sniping from the massive amounts of research I have since done to make up for my idiocy. I love the idea, love the stealth, but not sure what you all would recommend. So before I make more foolish purchases, what do you suggest? I trust your combined, endless knowledge sirs. Any and all feedback would be fantastic!

My suggestion is borrow someone elses gun and try playing as a rifleman and then try the support role. If you still fell like you prefer the sniper role after that then at least you gave others a try. Personally I don't pin myself under one role. I like being a rifleman but if situations call for me to do something else, I don't have any issues with that either.

Or buy a combat machine, and some mid caps. Keep the multicam. Sell the sniper rifle, go to your local surplus shop and buy some M81 cammies they're dirt cheap. Leave the CM stock till something breaks. Don't worry about the extra bullshit just get the basics and try to find what you like.

Thanks for the advice! I have some extra cash, so if I can keep the sniper to mess around with later I might! But i like the suggestions for the weapons! I will definitely avoid buying sniper upgrades! Thank you guys so much!

Hey Jbas, as a person who uses a L96 shadow ops made by UTG, I have good news and bad news. Good news is that the rifle can become a decent rifle. bad news is that it takes a lot of patience, trial and error and yes a good chunk of change to make it so. Unfortunately sniper rifles aren't something that re-sells well, and require extensive upgrades to really have an advantage. For a good overview of the type of parts you will need and approximate cost you can look at my rifle in my sale thread here.

I have done tons of research as to what wouldbe needed to upgrade it! That you for the heads up on the resale of it though. I ddecided to hold onto it as a project gun and tinker with it as I get some money here and there. I love the platform as a whole, but I don't believe my patience or skill is quite there yet to be a sniper. I will hopefully get there one day though! I have a whole list of upgrades and I will just bang them out one at a time til I get everything I need done!
