I have had a few guns come right out of the box in my day and when I test fired them. They just lock up right out of the box.
Just recently I bought a Airsoft GI Custom Gun. I get it delivered. I solder a Dean connector on it just like all my guns. Test fire it 4 times. Good to go. Load a mag to go shoot it, and the gear box locks up.
Any Idea's?

What type of battery are you using? If its a 9.6 is it fully charged?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards

Every time I have had a gearbox lock up it has been either that the motor was bad, there was too much friction in the gear box, or some of the wiring wasn't allowing a good current to run through the gun. The fact that it's a custom gun and you put a new connector on it raises red flags for me.

It is not the battery.

My guess is there is a problem with the electrical current or there is a stress-point in the gb. So I got a few questions.
Is it not spinning at all? Is it making a grinding noise when you pull the trigger? Is the motor and battery getting hot quickly?

So I sent this gun back to Airsoft GI and they break open the gear box and find that the tappet plate was busted and jammed into the piston. I guess that explains it. However that was pretty weak for the tappet plate to go like that.

However that was pretty weak for the tappet plate to go like that. Was this a G4 or FMG4? Or was it an actual A.G.I. "Custom" gun? If it was an FMG4, then you just got a lemon. The current-generation (called "next-gen.") FMG4s are mostly OEM'd by Lonex, and the Lonex tappet plate is pretty tough.

It was an actual custom gun.

It was an actual custom gun. Any idea who OEM'd it? Or if not, what model of custom was it? I'm just wondering, because a lot of people ask me about A.G.I. guns on my YouTube. My guess is still that you got a defective one.

Yeah dude. It is a Echo 1 Platinum OEM 'd by VFC, and it was defective just like all of the replicas that do not shoot out of the box.

It was most likely VFC's clear polycarbonate tappet plate, which is just bad. Polycarbonate is a terrible choice of material for a moving part in a mechanical device. To be fair though, the Platinum M4s and M16s are pretty good guns. VFC is just very...particular about how it goes about internals (*cough* auto-shimming *cough*).
