So its time that I finally build the replica I've always wanted, but I need a little input. I have almost everything figured out but I want some reassurance or better things you guys can come up with. If this is in the wrong section then I have no problems moving it. Now onto the list! Base gun: CYMA Soc-16 Internals: Madbull 420 mm 6.03 tbb AIM torque up motor www.evike.com/products/33031/R-hop kit (on the way!) Guarder V.7 steel gear set www.evike.com/products/24845/teflon cylinder Polycarb (metal rack obviously) Metal piston head ball bearing spring guide M140/M130 spring semi only mod CYMA RIS unit So far I think I'm not missing much internally but hey I'm sure I may have forgotten something. If you have anything to add, chime in and I'll gladly listen! Thanks guys

For the same price as the cyma and all the upgrades, you could get the G&P M14. Just throwing out another good option.

I don't think G&P has a socom version, that's the only version I'm interested in.

Have you looked into the Echo1 socom version yet?

The Echo1 is a Cyma rebrand. If he is gutting it then it won't be worth the extra money.

Puma1, you do know that is a cyma rebranded, right? Coldwave, you might want to take a look at some SHS parts off of this guy: clandestineairsoft.com/

Coldwave, look into the Guarder SP120 FTK kit. They run about $110 and are the perfect kit for building a M14. I used this kit in my M14 EBR with a TM M14 hop-up and it was an amazing shooter. If I could find where it was sold off to, I would buy it back in a heartbeat.
With that being said, if you can find a TM M14 hop-up unit somewhere get one of those as well. The original TM M14 hop-up is far better than other brand M14 hop-ups.

The only thing that I would change internally is the piston head. I'd swap out the metal for a polycarb or POM piston head. The plastic absorbs a little more of the impact than the metal with a heavier spring.

Yeah good point, might be smart to install a sorbo pad as well.

Just to echo what Foxhound said I've heard really good things about the guarder FTK. A few years back I read a thread somewhere about the cyma m14 being the best bang for your buck dmr using the FTK with a nice barrel and hop combo. This was pre r-hop days and there was lots of people claiming to be getting really consistent shooters in the 200ft range for less than 300 bucks.

I hope you have better luck with your CYMA M14 SOC-16 than my buddy did. I know that they're highly acclaimed as far as a budget M14 goes especially when it comes to the performance you can get out of it with minimal modification but my friend picked one up and his first one wasn't working right from the get-go. The gun wasn't shooting consistently and some of his shots would go far, others wouldn't, and some bb's would just roll out the barrel. He exchanged it and received a new one which worked slightly better. But he had experienced issues with the stock bucking and hop up unit and eventually his charging handle broke after only pulling it a couple times.
Anyways not to let two bad experiences in a row ruin your outlook on the gun as I'm sure he just got a couple bad eggs. I felt bad because I had recommended it to him based on all the good reviews it has gotten over the years. I had an Echo 1 EBR myself and the gun was solid. I guess after handling it too I wasn't really impressed with the quality, but my expectations are higher owning higher end guns so I want to point that out as well.
