My favorite is arid, its like a mix of Aussie camo. The tropic looks sort of a flectarn, but still amazing job at the patterns. Multicam Arid. Multicam tropic

Looks like they are both wearing original multicam gear too.

From a practical viewpoint I still like the original the best. The varied color palette means it's got some value in almost any situation. While it is true that it is camoflauge in almost any situation, it is not perfectly camoflauge; or at least, not as camoflauge as the camos designated for those scenarios. When in desert enviroments, it is a little too green, but works. In a woodland enviroment, it is a little too tan, but it works. This is a quote from Mark Owen when asked about whether he uses an MC CPC: "to be perfectly honest I really like the AOR1 and AOR2 colors more than I like multi cam. Nothing against that pattern at all, it kicks ass. I just like a true woodland/jungle pattern like AOR2 when needed. Same goes for AOR1 and desert environments. Hope that makes sense" MC is a good camo for forces like the army, which don't have the money to outfit every sigle soldier with both desert gear and woodland gear, but for forces like SEALs and the like, they can afford it. Jack of all trades, can't be a master of any.

I'm hoping that the plan is to have standard mc as the 'base' scheme for expensive things, the role of usmc's coyote brown for example, with base uniforms in specific schemes If you go to MCs website they state that that what the plan is. The same user now has more system-level options. For instance, a MultiCam® chest rig can be paired with a MultiCam Tropic™ uniform for a known jungle deployment. Similarly, a MultiCam® vest and pack can be paired with a MultiCam Arid™ uniform for activity within an open sand and rock desert.

The thing is that terrain isn't all one thing. I remember my first milsim op, the first Blind Fury in Ohio. I assumed that in the wooded terrain of southern Ohio, the guys in desert would be screwed. In the woods they were, but at trail edges, sandy sections, etc, desert worked better than woodland. That experience turned me off all-green camo a bit. The arid pattern might make more sense, as I don't know how many green patches there are in the deserts of the Middle East.

Not to sound like a complete smartass here, but I think the all green "tropic" pattern is meant for tropical regions. I have to imagine that you won't find much sand in the middle of south america. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:World_map_indicating_tropics_and_subtropics.png

You may not find a Sleeping Bear-size dune but I do bet you'll find sand near riverbeds, and colors other than green around game trails and human settlements.

I'm picturing the river boat scene from Act of Valor. I agree you will find sand and dirt around two track roads and settlements, but when your standing on a road or standing in a village regular multicam isn't really going to help that much. Also if your doing either of those then you aren't really trying to stay concealed. If I'm going to try to stay concealed I'm heading for the forest and in that area I would rather have the tropical pattern.
I'm just saying I think overall the more effective pattern in a tropical environment is the tropical pattern. I do agree that for somewhere like the Midwest (i.e. here) regular multicam is more suitable because it's more flexible.
That being said I'm not really qualified to pass judgment. I haven't been to South America or Africa, or some secret tropical location we'll never hear of to say what would and what would not be effective. As it pertains to airsoft in Michigan though I totally agree with you.

Have any of you looked at the patterns by Kryptek? They are a lot like the variations you see, and in some aspects, IMO, I think a little better.

New pics: Glitch still happens... When I highlight the image link and click Insert Image, it wants to insert the entire post in the URL.

Why not just paste the image URL between UBBC tags. The point of the upload feature here is to post pictures from your computer. Rehosting pictures from other websites just takes up storage space.

IceKatt, after 2 weeks of no posting a thread is considered dead. Unless you have something super important to add to the topic, please do not post in dead threads. It just bumps up threads we have already read.
