First, I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I didn't know where to post this exactly, so to any mod reading this, if you could move this to the appropriate section, that would be much appreciated!
So a few months back, before I was into airsoft, I found out about the WarFairy Charon, a 3D printable lower receiver for the AR15, which has the ergonomics of the FN P90. I thought it was cool, but because I don't have an AR-15, just saved a picture of it so I could never look at it again... Or so I thought.
So this afternoon, I was doing my animation homework, and I noticed my desktop was incredibly cluttered, and proceeded to see what I could delete, and after some searching I saw that picture, and immediately though "Holy crap, what if...".
So without further ado, here it is(and to those with Dial-Up, I apologize for the size of the image);
As you see, it is relatively simple. Besides housing the mag release, hammer, buffer tube and fire select controls, it is simply a few separate 3D printed pieces, glued together with some kind of polymer cement.
Now unfortunately, I'll have access to a 3D printer later in the semester(through my animation class), but it is against college policy to print firearm parts, and even if I could, it would require heavy modification to be used on an airsoft gun, whether it be an AEG, a GBBR or a Springer.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is; Would anyone be interested in this? I think it would be an awesome way to diversify your AEG/GBBR in a sea of M4 variants, provided it be doable.
I'm assuming he has a patent on it, and even if he didn't, I wouldn't want to be profiting off of someone else's design, but if WarFairy himself was interested he could profit from this in the airsoft market. I would like one just for myself, but since I don't have the means of doing so, I figured I'd share it with everyone here on MiA, and maybe someone with access to a 3D printer, who has experience with modifying stuff, will see this and give it a go. If someone does, please update me on the subject, I'd be very interested in seeing it done!!!
PS: For those of you who still haven't bit the hook, here's a few extra pictures to get you going;
Here's a version with an integrated P90 style grip.
Here's a rendering with a clear stock and lower.
And finally, not my favorite in the aesthetic sense, but in functional sense this is my favorite; One with an extendable stock.
For more pictures and info, you can find a thread with pictures on a DMR and an SSR version here.
More info on the carbine versions, and even a pistol AR version here and here.
