Since it doesn't sound like we will have a large airsoft scenario for a long time, I think I would take the initiative and start to plan a winter scenario.
Maybe by that time we will have a large enough group to play a big game with a common theme.
I dubbed this idea "Snow Fox" because it sounds really stupid and random, like all the names of big games (either airsoft or paintball, don't get me started).
I hope that in the coming months we can come together, gain online attendance, and maybe put some money towards this scenario to make a face for Michigan airsoft.

It needs to be some Russkies against the Germans...like Spetznaz vs. GSG9 etc. etc. etc. Then throw in Delta Force for a massacre!

What I wanted to avoid was pretentious names like "delta force" and "navy seals". I just want to play airsoft, no fantasy, no video game stuff.
I think that with the right R&D we can have a great game. What I am thinking about is bunkers made out of ice and snow, and two teams of at least 10 people each.
I want to take my time planning this so that it works out, I want this to be the first big scenario of Michigan Airsoft.

Ed!...not only do you have a quote that rules from one of my favorite movies, but you have wunderbar game ideas too! hehe Operation: Snow Fox it is! I'm sure as the weeks roll on we'll gather a few more members on the boards here to make 10 vs 10 player games possible. I sent emails out to quite a few people but I guess they're not too interested in playing anymore :-P woohoo, finally time to invest in some snow camo!

Alright! This sounds real good. Since I am at school I can't really break away and set up an airsoft scenario overnight. This is why I suggest we make the scenario sometime around the winter break, I want to have some time to move some of my stuff out. Needless to say, we should set up some flexable dates.
Another plus if we set up the game during the break is that all my friends from Western and 'Tech should be back. That would add another 3 or 4 people to the mix. Also: lets not fix on 10 vs. 10, I would prefer 15 vs. 15, or even 20 vs. 20.

hey I was wondering if we are trying to make a team here, or what? If our goal is to have a team of people I think it would be cool to run some manuevers or such against eachother, get some real tactics going.

I think the idea is to get people together and play, not to make a team. No offense guys, but I already have my team, we are just spread out over many colleges over Michigan.
Now give me feedback on Snow Fox!

Hey guys, just thought I would let you know, that cold temperatures really effects our AEGs. If there is snow on the ground, you can count on your LARGE battery giving you about 300 rounds before it dies, sticks maybe 100, mini's maybe 200. The hopup bucking also becomes rigid at cold temperatures, causing it to not really work, and seriously effecting the accuracy of your gun. At low temperatures, parts can also become more brittle, and even things like the piston slamming against the cylinder head can cause catastropic failure of the AEG.
GBB's won't even cycle. NBB's will most likely just release all of the gas upon a trigger pull. Springers are not affected nearly as much, but the hopup problems still apply.
This all happens when the tempature goes below about 40 degrees, and worsens the colder it gets. Just something to keep in mind if you are planning winter scenarios.

(Disclaimer-I've never played in the cold with an AEG yet) Locustus, I was just watching an Airsoft game movie and they were playing in the snow, no problems at all. I can e-mail you the movie (9.86 mb) if you want me to, it's not that big of a deal.

Sure you can play, I was just warning you of the problems that can occur, and the limited battery capacity you will have. I have played in pretty cold weather myself, can't say it was worth the trouble though.
By a video, you cannot really tell if the accuracy or battery life of an AEG is affected.

I have played in cold tempertures before, I know all the problems you are talking about. Although there is a problem with batteries loosing life, I do not think there is any problem with guns breaking. I have played many times in the snow, treating my gun just like I do in the summer. Out of numerous people and half a dozen AEG's, there were no malfunctions or breakings. Also gas guns will work if equipped with a remote system (that is, a hose attached from the gas can to the gun).
Believe me, I am planning this scenario around these conditions.
THANK YOU for giving me critical feed back: KEEP IT COMING! I believe that to have a great scenario, we will have to put all of our heads together.

What happens if we don't have snow camo? Will it be required?

Ed, first and foremost you're gonna have to look at the playing field and see what you can work with. Also, would you be willing to spend some money on some things to give the skirmishes some objectives? Simple things like flags (the ever popular capture the flag), stretchers(for the downed pilot scenario), etc etc. If you do intend on snow bunkers you're gonna need to either build 'em prior to the designated date or just hope everyone helps out in the building process the day of the event.
It would help out a lot to draft up some rules (I have some from our skirmishes that I could send to you to look over) or if you already have some, then distribute them to those who are planning to come to the skirmish.
People who plan on attending, give some input as to what you would like to see. If it requires some sort of funding then ask around and see if you guys could split the cost. Just make sure that the ideas arent too far fetched since this will be the first (of hopefully many!) Michigan events.
That's about all I can currently think of, I'll post if anything pops into my mind. -Smokey
