Some of you may have seen my 1911 pistol that I did a paint job on, but sadly it didn`t last and I am now redoing it. My problem is making the paint durable to abuse from sliding it into the holster and just regular use. What are some good ways to make a paint job durable?

Sorry for your piss-drenched wheaties this morning. I use Testor's dull coat, it's like $4 for a little can, and smells funny, but works.

Testors is enamel paint that is meant for model cars that sit on a shelf their entire lives, not firearms. Miles was correct, your other post meant absolutely jack shit in answering the OP's question. kaponk- If you can't source Duracoat or Alumhyde, simply adding SEVERAL coats of flat sealant will give you the semi-durable finish you want. Hard corners will wear 10x quicker as the paint can chip off if you make it too thick. Same thing applies to Alumahyde and Duracoat, but there's a much higher strength with those compared to spray sealant.

Da Vinci, this sort of thing really isn't helpful. If you have nothing useful to add, don't post.

I haven`t had much time to look around, have only been able to go to my local Wal-mart, which had nothing, but once I get back from MEPs i`ll be going to Home Depot and Lowes to try and find Duracoat or Alumahyde II.

If you want Alumahyde, you'll have to go to Brownells as it's only available through them. (To my knowledge) www.brownells.com
