So here is what I was wondering. I know that most would say that silicone lube oil is the best for general cleaning of a gun, but I was just thinking if it would be okay to use brake cleaning lube as a replacement. My dad has a ton of the stuff and uses it for doing everything from killing bugs and weeds to cleaning his real steel stuff.
Now, I will understand if you don't know if it would work, I have a couple of springers that would serve as great test subjects. ;D
I was only asking because I don't want to have to continually buy silicone.

You shouldn't need to "continually buy silicone," a bottle of lightweight RC shock oil should last you ages. Go to your local hobby shop, buy a bottle, and forget about the brake cleaner.

If it has petroleum in it (Which I'm guessing it does), don't use it. It will eat away at the hop-up bucking and possibly the o-rings inside the gearbox.
Buy silicon from an RC car/hobby shop. You can get many different weights, in large quantities, for tons less than anything marketed for airsoft.

Great minds think alike- and post at the same time, apparently.

If you prefer to buy online to searching your local hobby store, this is what you want. losi.com/Products/Features.aspx?ProdId=LOSA522115 weight is just about right. If you have to go higher, I wouldn't go above 25 for most purposes. I've been using this stuff for 10 years and have gone through two 3oz bottles.

I use silicone on my guns almost after every game and sometimes before a game if it's been a while.
I've been using it a lot lately too since I've picked up a gas M4.
I've had the same one for at least 4 years now and I still have half left.
