So I went to the Farmington CQB game tonight and I couldn't use my JG m4 because it was shooting at 380 fps instead of the required 350 or lower. I know to use a weaker spring, but I don't want to buy one and figure out how to install it or hire someone to. Is there any tricks into making it shoot slower? Thanks! Okay so if I keep the spring compressed like this for a whle... Do you think it would lower the fps? In the picture I think the piston is back and compressing the spring but I'm not sure img822.imageshack.us/img822/9518/snapshot201111271.jpgimg35.imageshack.us/img35/8286/snapshot20111127.jpg

Sorry man, your only reliable option is to have a new spring installed. The only other thing I can think of is to try getting your spring to compress and leave it compressed for a day or two. This can be done by shooting a small burst on full auto without resetting it with the recommended 1-2 semi shots afterwards. It can be a little tricky as you have to time it just right. I did this with my wife's G&G MP5 and it went from 360 to around 330 overnight. Though, it worked...it's not necessarily reliable and I would only consider it a quick fix. It's more of a trial and error thing. It would be better to replace the spring as then you will have a better idea of what the end result will be.

Opening a gearbox is not as daunting as everyone seems to make it. Just go to mechbox.com and follow the instructions have a clean and organzied working space and the required tools and its pretty easy to install a new spring.

Okay so if they compressing spring trick doesn't work, I guess I'll get a new spring. But take a look at the pictures I added. Is that spring compressed enough to lower the fps by like 30?

Depends I guess. I am not completely sure.

That probably won't work. G&G springs are known to settle to about 330 FPS after a little use, so it's no surprise that Dynamo's did. He just sped up the process a bit. JG springs never really get down to 350 FPS, so there's a good chance you're just boned. And if it does happen, it certainly won't happen in two days. I left a PDI spring compressed for about 6 months (by accident) and it lost all of 5 FPS.
Swap out your spring.

So if it won't happen in two weeks, then about how long should it take, if at all?

From what he is saying is that you will not be able to drop the FPS by 30, somewhere between 5-10 at best.

From your pics, it looks like you're doing it right. But, as everyone is saying, it probably won't do for you what it did for me. I didn't know that about JG springs. But JuiceBox is right. Changing out a spring in an AEG is actually pretty easy. Just open those guides that he posted so you can see what part goes where. Grab a friend or two to help you keep things together. There is a lot of tension with the spring when you open the gearbox and if you're not careful you can lose parts.
But don't let that scare you. It's just a precaution and easily preventable if you know to expect it. Good luck with everything man!

Or put it in a plastic bag like a ZipLock bag while you are opening it.

I'm pretty sure you will just have to get a lower tension spring, JG springs stay pretty stiff for the longevity of their life.

Like everyone else said, just swap the springs out, it`s not hard to open and go through a gear box, actually really simple. Trying all this other stuff probably will not get you even close to the 30fps drop you need. Also swapping springs is really easy, like a 10minute repair at best.

I love how useful information appears in random places. Thanks for notifying me about mechbox.com! I need to swap out the spring in my overpowered SCAR as well.

There's a stickied thread about mechbox.com in the Tech Questions section.
