The title is self explanatory. I have around a $350 budget for gun, mags, and gear. I'm pretty sure what gun I'm going to get so that leaves $175 to get gear, mags, etc.
I'm going to hold off on a helmet, seeing that is more cosmetic when it comes to airsoft than anything. I already have eye protection, so don't bother with that. Just give me a list on what you think would be the best gear for a new player, e.g. me.

I would look for used gear in the commerce section. Try to just get the basics until you get out there and find what would work for you. I would recommend a cross-draw vest to start. Put the rest into your gun, batteries and mags.

I on the other hand, would not recommend a cross-draw vest. Go with something that will give you the most bang for your buck. A vest with a holster on the front of it for a pistol you probably won't even be buying right away is nothing but wasted space.
I'd go for something a bit more modular personally. You may end up spending slightly more when you buy pouches too, but at least you can build it up over time.
I'll try to find some specific examples, but it would help to know what you like. So for instance, what gun are you looking at getting? It might make a difference in what kind of rig we recommend. Do you like chest rigs, plate carriers, a battle belt? That makes a huge difference in what to look for in your budget range.

You can find lots of china made plate carries, and vests (NOT CROSSDRAWS) for relatively cheap all over the interwebz. A lot of times they are even under $150. That leaves you $200+ for a starter gun, mags, and a battery. Starting with a decent vest is going to be the best option as you can always change/expand pouches once you get more stuff.
As Thor said though, you probably want to figure out which weapon system you want to roll with first, that way you can chose the right style of vest that fits you, your weapon, and your play style.

Cross-draw haters ! =D The main reason I chose it as my first piece is because I picked it up for 10 bucks and it came with MOLLE on the front instead of the holster. It has plenty of storage space for your first few games. As Thor said the battle belt would be another option. Leaves plenty of room for growth, and the likely-hood of not using it in the future is slim.

You can't go wrong with the Pantac MPS chest armour. I have one, and still use it. It has magazine pouches built right in, so no need to invest in specialized mag pouches. They can hold anything. I would like something that I could build up over time, it would save money in the long run and I can customize it for whatever situation I might be in. I think that a MOLLE is what I'm looking for though. I'm far from the point of really NEEDING a pistol, so a cross-draw wouldn't be of any help to me. To me, airsoft pistols and helmets are kind of like bling, so don't bother with anything like that. |

Oh yes, what would be some good and durable, but awesome looking camo types? I really like subdued digital, it makes me feel more secure in a weird way.

If this is what you mean by subdued digital, you should probably skip it. It's far too dark to be effective in any environment you're likely to play in. Stick to something green or tan based and you'll blend in a lot better and look less foolish at games. I'll more than likely just stick with digital woodland. It's just easier to come by and is much more multipurpose. |

It would depend on the brand and condition of the vest, what kind of pouches come with it, and the offered price. You also might care about the color as well. Tan is pretty much a universal color for vests. It goes great with any camo, and blends in well just about everywhere in Michigan. Generally the CIRAS (either land or maritime) is a good design for a vest. It's bulky, but not prohibitively so. If you're a really skinny dude, you might have problems fitting it to your body.
So, what brand is the CIRAS and how much is the seller asking? What does it come with? Do you have any pictures of it?
