What's the difference? From what I've heard they're pretty similar; they both have a high ROF gun such as an m249 or anything else with a crazy ROF and enough range so they don't have to be right in the front line. They are both used to suppress enemy positions, defend an area or prevent the opposing side from rushing your team or position.
So what's the difference? What tactics, movements, equipment, goals, counters, etc, is not the same between these two roles? Because I want to know if there even is a difference?

There's no difference, although I'd say that it's not essential to have both high range and high ROF. It's very hard to combine those two and keep the gun running. The real mark of a support weapon is the enormous BB capacity that allows it to function as a base of fire while the rest of the squad maneuvers.
