Ask Dan Tollis, he's in Clinton Township and I'm sure he'll be your "trainer". He goes by "Tollis" on this forum.
But really, go read over in the Team Forum and read around. Perhaps you should try to make it to an event first and see if you really like it.

Ask Dan Tollis, he's in Clinton Township and I'm sure he'll be your "trainer". Tollis is an excellent "trainer," especially when it comes to target practice and chairsofting. It's too bad he doesn't come on MIA anymore (or maybe it isn't... ) Like Miles said, get out to some games and meet some people, that'll be the best hands-on experience that you'll get. Everybody has something different that they can offer you.

Your best bet is to get a basic starter gun, and some camo from a surplus or a Goodwill. G&G Combat Machine and go play! The best way to learn, is to well, do it of course!

You don't need a trainer. Just go out and learn as you go like the rest of us. Your best bet is to go to a local rec game and just talk to the other players around you.
On this (east) side of the state there are games every week at Eastside and Phoenix. There is also a rec game in taylor on July 10 so there is plenty of opportunity.

Check out all of the stickies at the top of this section (and really, any sticky on MiA at all). They're just packed with good information to help new players learn the basics. Once you've read through them, you'll have a much better idea of what to look for in a gun and gear. If you've still got some questions after that, then just fire away and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction. As for meeting people and learning how best to play, I can't give you better advice than what the guys above me have already said. Check out games (even if you don't have a decent gun yet) and just start talking to people. Find a group of guys who look like they know what they're doing (there's probably only a 50% chance that they actually know what they're doing, but whatareyagonnado, right?) and ask if you can tag along with them. I've yet to see anybody on the field tell another player that they can't play with them. Usually, guys are happy to have another body help them push on an objective. So just try to keep up with them, ask the what you can do to help out, that sort of thing. The only way to learn is to play and pay attention to the better players around you. If you're attentive, you'll pick it up pretty quickly. And remember, the worst thing that can happen is you get hit, you respawn, and you try something else. Experiment on the field and don't worry about getting hit a few times. The more mistakes you make, the more you can learn from them. On to more moderator-y stuff, now. Check out our forum rules section here: miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rulesWe run a pretty tight ship around these parts. It helps in keeping the quality information flowing while maintaining a relatively low level of noise. A lot of it is typical forum stuff (don't post in dead threads, don't be an asshole, that sort of stuff), but unlike most forums, we also enforce a pretty strict grammar rule. We ask that all of our members write in proper English, using complete sentences, correct spelling and appropriate capitalization and punctuation. We're not so worried about the occasional typo or nit picky stuff like dangling modifiers and ending a sentence with a preposition. But you've got to follow the basics when you post here. I would appreciate it if you cleaned it up by your next post. Thank you, and welcome to MiA.

If you're from Clinton Twp. and your 17 years old chances are you might go to someones school from Phoenix Tactical. Stop on by one of our indoor games soon and me or someone else from the team can show you the ropes and help you out.
As far as a team goes, Get yourself out to games like everyone has stated. You meet your type of people that you play well with and most importantly have fun.

I'll train you, if you piss on my carpet though I'll have to roll up the old newspaper and hit you in the nose I used to go to chippewa valley high school, but I graduated this year. I'm going to slowly start getting back into the groove of things Ike, I'll start getting to games soon.
