If you sell something to someone and your going to ship your gun/gear/parts etc. what do you do? What shipping companies are preferred? Is there a certain age you have to be to ship stuff?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. I usually prefer USPS Priority Mail or UPS. But you could also use FedEx or DHL. I would recommend shipping anything you would be concerned with having to replace if it doesn't show up via some method that provides a tracking number. I'm pretty sure that all of the above except Priority Mail have tracking numbers by default, but you can pay a little extra for delivery confirmation to get one.

Most people use either UPS (my preference) or FedEx. Either one is just fine. What you want to do is get a box ahead of time, pack whatever you're selling in it with bubble wrap or packing peanuts (available at UPS Store, Post Office, Target, Meijer, etc), seal it up and take it to the UPS or FedEx store. Tell them the address, they'll charge you, label it and send it out. They'll probably ask you what you're shipping, just say toys if you're sending a gun or clothes if you're sending gear. It's in no way illegal to ship airsoft stuff, but it's just easier to lie instead of explaining.
You should probably have a parent come with you, just because if you feel like you're too young to ship something, you're probably too young to get yourself to the UPS/FedEx store anyway.

It might be worth noting...
DO NOT WALK INTO THE UPS STORE WITH AN AIRSOFT GUN. You may know it's fake, but they do not. Get the box first, unconditionally, and package it yourself. I've had the UPS people package mine for me, but I brought it in a box, and explained to them what it was before opening it. They were very understanding an lenient, but you might not get the nice clerk that I got. Just do what Knief said, it'll make your life much easier.

Would a pistol (1911) fit in a flatrate box?

Would a pistol (1911) fit in a flatrate box? I'm pretty sure it would. I have a good idea of how big both are. Is it just a standard m1911? Also, keep in mind you probably want to protect it a bit with bubble wrap and whatnot, which will make it bigger.

Standard m1911's have thinner frames, so you should be good.

Will not fit in a small flat rate box but would fit in a medium box. Remember that you need to put packaging around the pistol or it will get jacked up during shipping.

Small item to remember: unload the airsoft gun completely, nothing chambered, no mags inserted, no battery plugged in. Render the gun inert. Remove all gas from mags if it is a gas powered gun. (An explosion or damages to other shipments may come back on you.) For an added measure install the blaze orange tip or affix a temporary one. (Technically this should always be done during shipping.) Most UPS stores will turn away these items due to liability reasons. There is a store in Ann Arbor that will work with you on South Main St. I've never really had any issues as I used to work at a ups store.

I brought my airsoft gun in a gun bag and called ahead to the store where I was shipping it from because I didn't have a box at hand. The guy said it was okay and that he will be looking for me. They took it out of the bag at the store and put it straight in the box. But that I'm sure it will vary from location to location if you can do something of this sort. So if you don't have a box at hand, be sure to call your local shipping location before taking it in there, and if you bring it in (without a box and/or already packaged), be sure to not walk with it in plain sight of the public when transporting it to the store! Use a gun bag or case. Also make sure the orange tip is on (if possible.) As someone else stated, installing the orange tip will definitely help if you do what I did (bringing it in with a gun bag and calling ahead), that way there is somewhat no concern if it is real or fake. Finally, when transporting it, be sure no magazines are in, and batteries are out, that way once in the store and it is out of the bag, it has no chance of an accidental discharge and hurting someone.
This method is probably not recommended but if you don't have a box at hand, it's a suggestion.

There is a store in Ann Arbor that will work with you on South Main St. I've never really had any issues as I used to work at a ups store. Legally speaking, the blaze orange tip only needs to be affixed to the gun when it is sold from a retailer or passing through customs. If you are sending a gun to another person there is nothing illegal about not having an orange tip on it. While to you or me an orange tip equals airsoft gun, to a government employee (postal service or police) I can assure you that it means nothing. Depending on the item really decides how I'm shipping it. If it's small(er) then I will send it USPS Parcel post (cheaper, just as fast in the state of Michigan). If it's an AEG or a fair amount of gear then I ship FedEx. Not only is it closer to me in KZoo, but it's cheaper than UPS and I've never had problems with FedEx, while I have had problems with UPS and USPS.
