Alright guys.
My lil bro was getting tired of his M1A1, so I decided to give it a re-vamp and convert it into a 1928A1 Thompson. It needed a new paint job anyways ;D
Why not just by the CYMA 1928?
It is very inaccurate to the real thing that's why. Its just an M1A1 Thompson with a different barrel and sight box. The 1928 receiver was actually very different from the M1A1 receiver.
I am also cheap and wanted to work with what I have. ;D
Anyways here are the differences for those who don't know;

What I needed to do for the conversion:
1. Build up the sides of the receiver
2. Make a slot for the bolt on the top of the receiver
3. Buy a new butt stock or convert the old one
4. Make new rear sights
Anyways this is the Model I want to build, the 1928A1

It is the simpler kind with peep sights instead of ladder. I plan to make the ladder ones at some point. The barrel is also not finned as I have no way of doing that.
.................................................................................................................................................................
Here is my process so far.
Almost done with the receiver. I need to do some finishing sanding on it. I also need to add the rear sight. I'll just use a homemade peep sight for now. I'd like to make a ladder sight at some point though, so I can go Saunders style.
To build up the sides of the receiver I used steel bars. I used a bench grinder for most of the parts where I had to shape the bars. It was very tough sanding through the steel. I'd suggest aluminum bars for anyone looking to attempt this. The steel will give it a nice heft though. Just used epoxy to glue the bars to the sides.
I am converting the plastic stock to look more like a 1928 one too. It won't be perfect. Still better then an M1A1 stock though.
Stay tuned I plan on finishing this fairly soon.
