I have not had any experience with either, but I am kind of curious as to why you are looking for high fps out of a pistol. To me, a pistol is a weapon to use in close quarter combat, which results in fps not being a major factor. Not to mention, if you have a limited engagement distance, you might have a pistol shooting too hot, and wouldn't be allowed to use it within a certain distance, rendering the pistol almost useless.
Just something to think about.

Fuzzy is right. Remember, if you're shooting hotter than 350 FPS, you have a 20 foot engagement limit. Within 20 feet is where pistols really shine. You should be looking for something in the 280-330 FPS range. You don't really need any more than 300 FPS, but the extra penetration and ability to use a heavier bb is nice if you're punching through brush. But pushing your pistol past 350 FPS is just pointless. You limit a short range gun to long range engagements.
As for the two guns, the KWA is likely heads and shoulders above the SOCOM gear. SOCOM gear seems to be a rebrand of WE, and their track record is spotty at best and downright poor at worst. They make unreliable guns that break quickly and easily. KWA doesn't have the best track record, but their PTP/N2 series has been a significant improvement over their older models. They've pretty clearly committed themselves to producing quality products in the last couple of years and it shows. They're still not the best of the best, but they're miles ahead of SOCOM Gear and WE.

When looking for an M9 always make sure you pick one that has an adjustable hop up. I've heard and read conflicting things about the SOCOM/WE M9 having a hop up or not. Some say it does have one, others insist it doesn't.
Out of those two the KWA is the only choice. The KWA M9 mag baseplate seems to have an issue of falling off, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems. The NS2 system is solid and it has an adjustable hop up.
Another option is the KJW M9. It is similar in quality to the SOCOM/WE. It has adjustable hop up and is green gas ready.

I have had my hand on a KWA M9PTP and they are grand. As far as the SocomGear goes I have heard good things and bad things about them. One good selling point for any KWA replica is that (and this is my personal experience) if you have any problems that require additional money to repair KWA will replace parts for you at a reasonable price of only $35. This DOES include shipping there and back.

Tino KWA will rape you on parts for your gun thats my experience. But KWA m9 is great I have one and love it the baseplates don't stay on the mags but glue can fix that. If your interested in a KWA m9 pm me.

According to KWA, the weak baseplates on the magazines have been fixed. New M9 ptp magazines should be much more durable.
