You can use some filler to fix up those gaps with almost no problem. Its look really good. I'd take a sander or some sandpaper (tedious by hand) and go back and smooth everything over again. It still looks a big blocky for my taste.
Its turning really well for a homemade project though, its really cool.

Definitely more curves, maybe a custom cheekpiece? Should be something to brag about if it turns out right.

Here are the final pics before I stain it ebony. Added some curves and a butt extension. A cheek rest looked really weird and I think this is because you dont see very many AK's with one. The stock extension isn't permanent yet so I really want input on that. w/ extension w/o extension Close ups It sucks that the hardware is so close to the edge but there is nothing I can do about it. There will also be a screw toward the back to hold it steady also. Next step... Stain!

I would curve the actual top of it, to make it come to more of a cylindrical shape on top instead of flat, and add a little more depth to the thumb hole on your hand side, so then it will be easier on the angle of your thumb after prolonged play. But it looks sick with that back piece on it!

I agree with Oce. Tailor it to your needs but if that thing gets jammed up in your jaw, you're in for some serious hurt with that angle. I also agree on the widened thumb hole on your hand side. You see that in the example picture you posted.
I like the extension, but its something you're going to have to decide on. Since its a custom stock, it can be tailored to anything you need it to be. If its more comfortable with the extension, right on. If not, do away with it.
Looking forward to stain pics.

IMO you should gloss it. Would look MUCH better.

Great job, definitely a one of a kind stock. I think the final does look nicely weathered. In my opinion, some wood furniture up front would make it look amazing. To keep it both 'tactical' (with the forward rail), wood, and balanced... maybe you could make the front yourself, just like you did with the stock. Just mill in a groove and put one of the m4 hand guard rail adapters on the top with the screws drilled in, then stain it to match.

I think varnish, or gloss it. I am currently "meh" about it.

You were off to a really good start, but it seems like you got halfway and kind of said "fuck it". It seems too chunky, like theres a lot of unnecessary wood that could be sanded down to look smoother and more rounded (especially the grip) like the one you posted a picture of. And as for the extension, It looks a little chincy, you probably would have been better off making it longer in the first place.
Big +1 for the DIY though.

Related Question: Do AK74 mags fit in AK47's? I'm looking at picking up MAG midcaps and hate trying to get these bananas into mag pouches.

To my knowledge, they should. My Dboys AK takes TM 47 and MAG 74s no problem.

Looks a little rushed to me. I think it has great potential but imo you should take more time to sand it and get it looking like the picture you posted. Also i would experiment with different stain. I love the wood aks without the black plastic crap. the closer you can get it to the picture you posted the better (imo of course).

You need to plane it A little more and round the backside of the grip. Don't be afraid to bring it down because of the motor cutout, you will know when the wood is getting thin. It's going to be uncomfortable.
