Lid just sent me this message to be posted in this thread.
FUCK
I've got good news and bad news:
Good news first, we won't have to see Crazyman suck his own @^&*.
Bad news, No Vacancy is cancelled. I can feel the sighs as I type this. Let me get one thing straight before I explain why. HELLFISH ONLY PLANNED THIS EVENT. THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY. THEY ARE NOT TO BLAME.
So if you haven't started bashing me yet, I'll explain the situation:
I recieved a phone call today from the Lt at Hazel Park PD. He is just below the Chief of Police. He advised me that one of the HPPD officers had printed a copy of the event and showed a bunch of the other Officers. (He wasn't aware of the event but was advised of it by another party.) The officer that did was pretty excited and wanted to attend.
Well the flyer made its way to the Lt. (who hadn't seen the flyer). The Lt. is just below the Chief of police and doesn't work the weekends so the event shouldn't affect him. He, feeling obligated due to his postition, brought it to the city manager and department heads attention in a weekly meeting. He obviously didn't want this to happen without advising them and get his ass in the cooker. I'll say right here that I never brought it to the City Managers attention. Didn't think I needed too. Boy was that the wrong assumption.
The meeting consisted of the city manager, city attorney, Chief of Police, Fire Chief. They advised the administration of the event and took a lot of heat for it. Long story short is it got political.
The City manager who I spoke with after getting off the phone with the Lt. explained that while "I think this is a great idea and would have loved to assist you with this it becomes a liability for the city".
I literally spend a half hour attempting to change his mind. Bottom line is the Citys stance is that due to them placing an order or city ordinance of the building being "uninhabitable" due to safety concerns they (City) can't be liable for what would happen to us. The placed the order on the building last year just before I did the walk thru. He then began to tell me about the asbestos, bolts from the floor, and other dangers. I did the walk through and if SRT can go through it I knew we wouldn't have a problem with it.
So in other words if I fell and broke my ankle, they state that I can sue the city because the city had prior knowledge of the building being a basic shit hole with many problems. He states that the waivers mean nothing which most of us already knew. He stated that if they hadn't put the order of "uninhabitable" they would have had no problems other than it not being put on their plate when we first started planning it. Maybe I should have put it on their plate but it's private property and to tell you the truth didn't think I needed to.
He further stated that if this would have happened last year that he would have let this happen because "we hadn't removed the water meters and shut off the water to the building". Then he started talking about the what ifs, what if the building caught on fire, we have no fire suppression due to the water being off.
I finally conceded because I won't win this battle and pissing them off will get me nowhere. I was given a glimmer of hope. The city manager did state that if we had any other buildings in mind he would be glad to look into having an event there. Could be blowing smoke up my ass but ya never know.
I've tried to explain everything and hope most of you understand. I also know a lot of people will bitch and whine. Go ahead just direct it to me and not the Hellfish.
Again, sorry this didn't work out. I'm was glad to see how much intrest this drew and worked my butt off to make this happen. I do have some other buildings in the works but believe me when I tell you it will not be public till things are 100% good to go. I am as disappointed as the rest of you.
