Seems numbers of airsofters are headed towards sniping. Hey, lets face it, it's fun to take out someone from a distance w/out them knowing where it came from. I've been carefully reconsidering my options after the SG1 deal went South. Bolt springers with upgrades are kinda' expensive. I really like the looks of my SR16 with my 3-9x40 rubber armored scope sitting on top of it all wrapped up in camo. SOCOM suppressor is working & looking great on the end too. The gun's very accurate and has numerous upgrades. I called my fav friendly airsoft-smith and found I could get a ready-made reinforced mech box installed & tuned and my butt-stock tweaked to accept 9.6v & 10.8v batts all for $250 - 300. This would be the winter airsoft project.
So I'm looking to you folks for some input (since some of you will be feeling the sting of this bugger if it happens). What are your thoughts on a Sniper "Hunter-Killer" on the field? <man I love that title....Hunter-Killer, gives me chills ;D> Basically I'd be "in the game" to do recon, find snipers and other baddies, and then take 'em out from afar. Since the gun will have some oomph, I would not be allowed (able?) to use it under the same conditions provided those of a sniper, but I could use its full auto capability from a distance (esp. on snipers or for suppressing fire), but only at a distance. At shorter distances I'd have to rely on the Benelli (gee darn, I'm so bummed.....hehehe). Whaddya' think?

Sheesh, just hearing the name "Hunter-Killer" gives me goosebumps. Sounds like a great idea, and also sounds like I'll be teaming up with you most of the time just to avoid that thing. hehe. What kind of internal upgrades are you planning?

Barrel and all gearbox internals & cylinder stuff done already, but for 350/375 fps. I'm looking to crank it up to around 450+ (basically sniper rifle specs) with the idea that you fight firepower with firepower. That's why I would confine myself to only using it at a distance and rely on a strong backup gun for closer matters and so as to not hurt anyone. Matter of fact, since I'm yanking the gearbox out, perhaps I should sell it!?

450+ ?? Eegads man! Yeah, methinks that'll be enough to keep heads down for miles! Or even take heads OFF for that matter. As for selling the stock mechbox, I'd say it's really up to you. I would probably keep it just in case something might go wrong with your upgraded one, but if you do want to sell I've seen a marui mechbox sell really well on ebay before. ($80+) Which could go towards yet another weapon to add to your pimpy collection.

Hey guys, at AO games, anything over 400fps is restricted to semi auto. This is pretty consistant with most clubs rules, so while you guys can do what you want, just keep that in mind just incase you ever attend any larger skirmishes, or multiday events.

M130, the systema high-torque gearset, and a 9.6v. you'll get like 390ish.

I think your idea of a sniper hunter is a good idea.
;DIt will give me more of a challenge ;D
BBBUUUTTT, I think 450+ is way to high, I know I wouldn't want to play against you if your gun was that powerful. And its true that you wouldn't be able to use that killing machine in most games.

I can live with a bit less power, if the snipers can ;D As well, semi-auto is no problem.

Would it be possible to have a couple springs and switch them out? Maybe you could have one that fired about 400-425 for sniping and one that was either stock or a little upgraded, around 325 fps. I dont know if thats really feasable since I dont have any experience switching around aeg internals
