Ok, for some time I've been trying to figure out what upgrading fps does for your guns range. My problem was that I was asking people on airsoft zone, who are retarted. So from what I found out so far was Newman's upgrade (350) didn't realy do much in the range department. Also Hado's mp5 (350) has the range of my SR-16. Hado speculated that it was the mp5 short barrel lengh. But the airsoftohio guy's rifle (500+) shot at what I would guess 70 yards. About 30 yards more than mine. So upgrading your gun to 350 fps adds no noticeable range? But 500 does? Could anyone clear this up for me?

When did you get your SR-16 I thought you had an M4A1 RIS? Well anyway I'm not too sure on the whole range thing, just dont get a 500 FPS upgrade hehe.

I used a real steel M-16A2 stock, a M4 flip-up sight and wala SR-16, well a SR-16 RIS. One day I will put the batt. in the stock.

well, of what I know, if two guns shoot at 350fps then their range is going to be exactly the same if shot at exactly the same place, and if they both have exactly the same amount of hopup on. I also know that upgrading the fps of a gun will give you better range and accuracy, but I don't know how much of an upgrade you would need to increase range and accuracy to a certain range. The higher in fps you get, the higher you need to upgrade it to make a difference due to wind resistence, for example: a change in 200fps to 250fps, would make a much more noticable range difference than 300fps to 350fps. I hope this helps .

My problem was that I was asking people on airsoft zone, who are retarted. Inaudible retards! There are a good number really smart experianced airsofters on ASZF. Unfortunetly the rest of them don't know a thing. WORST FORUMS EVER! You do not want to know the stupid things I've heard from there. With the right hop-up setting and weight bb, you can get good range with your gun stock. It all depends on how fast you are shooting, your hop-up and your bbs. To answer your question: You don't need to get a large upgrade to get a long range. Just fiddle around with your hop-up and make sure you are not using too heavy bbs.

If you do have a largely upgraded gun, yes, heavier weighted bbs will definitely help increase range and accuracy. I think I might just get some .29g weight bbs for me AK ;D

I think 350 is a good FPS for assault-type players. I compared my stock M4 with my friend's 350 AK47 and his shoots much straighter and farther. maybe my hop up was not good, and it was raining....and windy...

Havok, I need to show you how the M4 performs with the 9.6 volt battery and the barrel cleaned and lubed. Big difference in how it shoots...it is noticeable. Next game, I'll show you how it is.

All, the FPS (more accuratly, the energy, measured in joules) has a direct impact on range. The more energy the BB has when it leaves the barrel, the more momentum it will have, therefor taking longer to slow down and fall.
The barrel length of your AEG will have little or no impact on your range. Longer barrels can slightly increase your FPS, therefor slightly improving your range.
However, many people confuse range with accuracy. A longer inner barrel will better stabilize the BB before it leaves the barrel, making it more accurate, and giving the perception of better range, when in fact it only improves your accuracy.
The combination of the energy and the accuracy of your replica will determine what you consider effective range.
So, an MP5 and an AUG, both shooting at 1.5J, should have the same range (meaning the BBs will travel the same distance), however the AUG should have a better effective range because of it's longer inner barrel.
Higher BB weights will never improve your range, only decrease it. however, because a higher weight BBs flight path will be less affected by air, they may provide a better effective range. You will need to experiement with different BB weights to see what works best for you.
Obviously, a well tuned hopup affects your range as well.

I never real bought the whole barrel length range thing. I also understood the term effective range, The only time I can't hit someone is when my bb hits the ground instead of them, nothing about the bb missing them. But thanks for the info guys I'm realy thinking about upgrading now.
Say bigmack what did you upgrade your gun to?
