Retailer Review: Tactical Tailor
Website: www.tacticaltailor.com
First off, Tactical Tailor has recently put up a new layout for their site that, in my opinion, is a big improvement over the older site.
Tactical Tailor manufactures and sells load bearing equipment (as their site puts it, "Tactical Nylon Gear"). They also resell some items made by other parties (gloves, hydration items, accessories).
Earlier this month (June 2004) I began to order some equipment in preparation for an event on June 18. With the timing being relatively tight, I knew that I had to find vendors with the items I wanted in stock. Lightfighter.com did not have any of the Tactical Tailor gear I wanted in stock, so I went right to the source. I called them and did not have to wait to speak with someone in sales. I requested the status on the following three items:
One-piece MAV Body (OD)
X Harness (OD)
Modular Hydration Carrier (OD)
The sales person confirmed that they had all three items in stock and I placed my order over the phone. I requested an order confirmation be sent to me via email. I had the items shipped UPS ground.
After waiting a couple days, I had not received my confirmation email, so I called Tactical Tailor and again I did not have to wait to speak with a sales person. She confirmed my order and gave me the UPS tracking number for the shipment.
The gear arrived about 1 week after being ordered (a reasonable amount of time for a ground shipment from Washington). It came in a soft, padded shipping pouch. The order was correctly filled and all the items were in great condition. The only thing other than the order items in the pouch was a copy of the order form.
Overall I give Tactical Tailor an A-. Phone customer support was great, they had the items in stock and got them out the door quickly. Shipping charges were reasonable. I wish I had received my email confirmation as I would not have called them if they had sent me a tracking number. Also, it would be nice if they included a simple instruction sheet for the MALICE clips and a catalog to further entice me. No points off for those last two items.
Of course the gear I got seems to be of great quality, but this isn't the place to talk about that. I will probably order directly from Tactical Tailor anytime I want to buy something they make.
