So I've been playing airsoft for a few years, but mainly just skirmishing and backyard stuff, nothing official.
Now a few guys and I are interested in getting a team together, but I'm wondering a few things about team airsoft.
1: How many, if any, tournaments are actually held in Michigan?
2: If there are tournaments, how many of them are for prizes (I've heard of some in other states, but none in Michigan), either cash or gear or whatever?
3: How many players does a team need? Is there an official size limit/minimum number of players?
4: How easy or difficult is it to enter these tournaments? I figure there's a fee per player or team, but are there other requirements?
Thanks to anyone who can give me some info on any of these points.

I don't think there are any airsoft tournaments like you're thinking.
There are OP's, that have tons of teams and single players that just divide the groups by camo patterns..
Some offer raffles to win prizes, but none are competitive in the way of winning something. That goes with paintball.
With airsoft, you're obviously not marking someone with paint to tell that they're not cheating. It's all on honor and if prizes come in, there's going to be a shit ton of cheating.
Also, I don't think it matters if your team consists of 2 or 40 people.
Unless someone sets up a tournament style game, you most likely won't ever face off team vs. team at an OP.
It's always a huge combination of teams and singles creating one big team to work together in squads at the game.

Ok I wasn't sure. I figured that was probably the case, as cheating is much easier with airsoft. I'm guessing that most of the cash tourney's I've heard of were probably sponsored by some big airsoft store then. Thanks for the info. I think this means there's gonna be a new airsoft team in northern MI

The only "tournaments" I have heard of are held by SpyOps. They let a 6-man(?) team go through a CQB building and clear it of all enemies and accomplish all objectives. Whichever team can do it fastest and most effective is the winner.
Other than that, as stated their is too much cheating to win a prize.
Good luck with your team.

Not so much tournaments as much as just team scrimmages, just to see how you compare with other teams. It's always a good fun way of just playing with other local teams and seeing how well your stratigy can do against a team that isn't just a group of people who have only met eachother once or twice.
It's a widely debated subject in airsoft, because with tournaments, like Crazyman said, will come cheating. So a good amount of refs are needed, and even then, it'd just become too paintball-esque for any of our liking. So it'd fail in the end.
