I am a marine infantryman that is trying to get my next duty station in either east lansing or grand rapids, i will be training reservist in case if they get activated. if i do get this duty station who or what groups are really active becuase i would like to join in some organized games if possible, i believe that this is a good hobby to get into and it would keep me sharp on my tatics rather than working on them one weekend a month I have nothing else to say. thanks for any one willing to give me their time.
also if i do get it, i will not be in michigan until spring or summer time, so right now i am kinda just doing some homework on what good gear for airsofting is and stuff so any info would be apprciated also thanks.

Welcome, onig! Airsoft events tend to wind down in frequency during the fall and winter. Your best bet for a good game would be ACO's Oct. 29th event. The field is great, and may not be too far a drive from where you are. Say the word, and I'll bring a spare AEG for you to try. Looking for wisdom inasmuch as general airsoft info goes? Head on over to this thread and read the linked pages. Short answer, buy a Tokyo Marui AEG you like the look of, then play a couple of games with it. Figure out the playing style you prefer, and then buy gear accordingly. If you're on a tight budget, you may want to try one of the new UTG AEGs, which look like a decent buy for the price. Also, try looking at my cheap-asses guide to airsoft gear thread. Us GK members like to concentrate on safety first, then fun and realism. I think that's the best ordering of priorities given this sport of hobbyists running about the woods with expensive Japanese plastic-throwers.

Thanks for the invite. but i am currently stationed in CA. right now. wont be in michigan until spring/summer of next year. but you gave me a lot of information thank you and hopfully when i get back home next year we can get together and play a couple of games. =)
i thought winter would be a great time to play... i know i am 21 but think of being a kid and building a snow fort as a base and haveing one team try to assault the fort and one team defend it... or capture the flag type thing with two forts. I have nothing else to say sorry my child in me came out. well he controls most of me I have nothing else to say.

if you are stationed in CA, you should probably check out airsoft in that area since it's even bigger there

There is no base in Kalkaska... Camp Grayling is in Grayling, but there are no Active Component Soldiers there. They are either Federal Techicians or AGR (Active Guard and Reserve). Recruiting is the only Active component thing he may be able to find in the State.

i am doing what is called I&I duty. i will be active duty, putting together training packages for reservist, stationed either in grand rapids, E.Lansing, Detroit, or Perrysburg, OH. they are not bases, just reserve centers. (dont really know what that means i have never been to one but that is what i was told by the career planner.)
the reason i am lookin at this is so when i come home i can get some airsoft time in =) and college done. being in the infantry well my unit at least we dont get much time off becuase we are stationed in 29 palms. and we go to the field for training a good 17 days out of each month. weather it is broken up or on long field op. that is what we average in the field. so it will be nice to take a break from hear =)

WEll if you get stationed in lansing my high school practically shares a Parking lot with the Marine Reserve center. I go to Catholic Central and if you get moved there could very well see you after School! ;D
