Metal bodies do not "screw" up your gun. They do take a little work to install, but well worth it in my opinion. I put one on my M4 about 2 months ago, and I love it.
If you are going to upgrade I would not go above 350fps. If you do you will not be able to use it indoors(that would be a 150% spring). It is also not really needed in my opinion.
I would say get the fps upgrade(spring, bushings and gears) first. Then get the metal body.
The metal body will add to the realism and durability of the gun.

Gabe, the 150% spring should theoretically take a gun to 360fps, not 350. Plus, it often takes guns beyind that. My own 150% PDW went to around 370 as chronoed by airsofttoys. Voss's P90 went to around 385 and celeborn's M4 went close to 400. Of course Newman's M4 chroned around 345.
If you're looking to get in under a limit (350), go with a spring thats more likely to get you in, the 140%.

yes thank you, I was thinking 360 when I wrote that. I personally have not seen this difference in the same percentage springs. Perhaps they were on different chronos, or other factors were involved.
I should do a test of a number of 150 springs in the same gun, run them through the same chrono, just to see. If the springs are that much different(and i have a hard time believing they are) then they(PDI) has a serious quality control issue.
Also, WTS has changed the FPS at there events to allow 360.

You guys have to also take into account inner barrel length, gears installed, gear box version, piston/piston head, cylinder, age of the spring, etc etc. But that change in fps is to crazy, I tend not to believe it myself.
