A TT plate carrier would do you fine. Cross-draw holsters suck - you can tuck any reasonably-sized pistol into a TT single M4 mag pouch instead, which is cheaper and takes up a lot less real estate. You can add a bib to a MAV if you just want extra PALS real estate, or just buy the TT plate carrier as you said. Anything made by TT will be solid. If you want to see my gear list, it's on my profile at the GK web site. For woodland games I prefer the vest type of LBE. The center split means I can unbuckle the vest and then my BDU blouse and get some quick ventilation during down time. Plate carriers get a lot warmer.

I have two rigs that I use regularly. One is a SOTech Callahan, which is basically a Hellcat integrated with a plate carrier. It's a really nice piece of kit, but it can be a little rough to get in and out of, and as Zorak noted, it's a little warm. My other rig is a Diamondback Tactical BattleLabs plate carrier with a DBT FastAttack RACK. I like this rig, but a word of warning - DBT usually has the plate carriers in stock, but the RACK is usually on backorder. I ordered one in Coyote Brown that took over six months to arrive. DBT was always cool about it, always willing to cancel the order, refund my money, send me something else, or send the RACK in a different color, but be aware that there are delays out there.
Also, the SOTech gear has m4 pouches built in (that is the nature of the Hellcat), but the DBT gear is plain vanilla with no built-in pouches.
