i found a good pic, that according to the UN peace keepers website, is the normal "feild wear" for a soldier serving with the UN www.un.org/Depts/dpko/photos/unomig/unomig06.jpg [/img] notice the slightly dorky blue vest. Another thing worth noting is the recent change of US policy about the use of leathel force to defend the peace keepers and their interests. Before most peace keepers where lightly armed, or not armed at all. But now they are deployed with the same load out as a normal feild soldier, if the situation calls for such a load out.

Sad but true... They wear blue helmets but still bother to wear camo As if: "Hey, what's that over there? Is it a UN guy?" "Nah, that bush just has a blue helmet,"

Even though the US didnt pay our dues to the UN, nothing will happen because of a few reasons:
1) If the UN need military power somewhere in the world it is the US that answers the call. When i was in Basic Training for the Army back in 99 our Drill Sargeants flat out told us that when it comes to the UN, the US Military is nothing more then thier Police Force and we basically go where they tell us to.
2) The UN Headquarters is located in the US, if the UN wanted to move to a new location they would need to first scout out a new location, get bids from contractos for a new building, build the new building, arrange for housing and even moving costs for the UN employees, ect... Over all it isnt that viable financially for them to move thier HQ out of the US.
As for the Blue Helmets, Vests, and Berets, the personel wearing them are classiffied as noncombatants just like the Red Cross (iirc), and by law (according to the Geneva Convention) they arent allowed to fire thier weapons unless they are fired upon first.
I have seen photos of some airsoft events in which there was a small unit representing the UN peace keepers. The also had people representing the News Media wearing blue Vests and Helmets along with carrying video recording equipment and photography equipment (these individuals were labled as noncombatants though I am sure they were fired upon by trigger happy players).
As for the Blue Helmets, vests, ect... and camo uniforms its nothing new, look at our own troops deployed around the world, in the Middle east our solders have Desert Camo uniforms, but the body armor and thier gears camo is the Woodland Camo pattern, the Marines have the MARPAT uniforms, but woodland gear.
On a side note I may get a couple cheap $20 plastic helmets and spray paint them as close to the UN Blue as possible to use in scenarios. I an pretty sure I can throw a few UN pecekeepers into the series of scenarios I am working on right now.

One of those bright orange hunting vests spray painted blue would add to the effect.

Actually, the vests in casey's picture could be easily passed off by blue hunting vests. But to save time and avoid trouble, let's say I was being sarcastic.

Under International Law XXX.XXX blah blah blah, UN soldiers acting as peace keeps are noncombatives. Up untill recently they weren't allowed to carry weapons, as they were mearly there are observers, but all of that has changed in the last 15 years. Where before they either didn't carry or didn't fire unless fired apon, that has all changed. If a UN Peace Keeper feels a threat is directed at them, or the people they are mandated to protect, they are allowed to open fire in a prememtive measure. However any such actions are discurange unless the threat is consider just cause for the actions. There is a big long thing about the rules that govern UN peace keepers, and such on their website, if you care that much. I was really board, and its really boaring to read.
