wow, u guys really took off with this topic.. I have nothing else to say.. It would be cool to make myself, but im 15, and i dont know what to do.. my dad could help me make 1, but i want them made for airsoft like they make paintball masks for airsoft... i dont like wearing paintball masks airsofting cuz they look dumb, but i dont want to get shot in the face too much so i dont want googles.... this looks cool, keeps u cool, and seems all out safer. i would think they should be made in plastic, but a real one might work.. would be tough to hollow it out and stuff... wouldnt it? Some one.... well... im not trying it anytime soon... Yes the lenses i would trust, i just dont want to get involved... i have no idea where to go with making one, so iof anyone decides to take this idea up, please let me know or soemthing on www.ampair.net.ms forum, or email me at xxswata4xx@yahoo.com I dont have a house in MI anymore, so i dont know how long i will use this site ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Well, they usually come with some pretty tuf lenses, don't they? I think they would provide more than enough protection from bb's, no problem...at least the ones we use at the fire dept. I'm assuming you'll use an existing mask and not start from scratch. Hell shoot a sniper rifle thats shooting 450 to 550 fps point blank a couple times, if nothing happens i say its good.. I did that before. Ross Dawg Bait

I would say contact a manufacturer of paintball masks or airsoft masks and ltell them your idea for the paintball/airsoft gas mask. Granted if any of the manufacturers do like the idea nad they do decide to produce a paintball/airsoft replica gas maks like you initially described, we probally wouldnt see it for at least a year or two. Also when you are suggesting the mask idea to them let them know you have a possible test market for them (us). If i had the skill, equpment, and time I would try to make a rough prototype using paintball mask lenses, but alas most my technical skills liek in more mechanical areas or computers then in fabrication.

I'd have to that this thread was of great use to me, as I've often considered a gas mask for face and eye protection in airsoft, as I've often perused my uncle's shop (Hubbard's military supply) and thought "hey- this might be a good idea..."
but I'm not sure what kind of masks my uncle has in stock, nor how I could tell if the lenses were safe for airsoft use- could anybody post something in regards to how I could determine if the lenses were safe for airsoft?

wow dude, common ghost, the last post on this thread was DECEMBER............ please stop reviving dead threads.... Hey, Would u rather him have strarted a new topic?!? Everyone says to use the search function instead.... So he did the right thing. I know he has been doing this a lot, and it's not good, but in this matter of asking a question about it, and not answering a topic that has been long answered., i think he did the right thing. Hell shoot a sniper rifle thats shooting 450 to 550 fps point blank a couple times, if nothing happens i say its good.. I did that before. - Dawg Bait ^^^^^ He said it for me ^^^^^ Well.... you can get a strong rifle.. shoot it a lot.. if it passes that test.. well.. then hit it with a hammer.. j/k. Shoot them to see if it can at least hold that at first. P.S. Then pay me for the idea. I have nothing else to say. j/k If the pic didnt work for u.. heres the url: img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/swata4/GASMASK.bmp

Yes, that green mask is ugly, I was thinking the black S.W.A.T. gas masks... but for field of vision, that one does look pretty good instead of the dual lenses.
I was thinking if someone could make acessories for them too.. radio attatchments.. make the fan an accessory... led lights on the outside.. ( we have special lights mounted on out paintball masks for at night.. reading papers and maps.. Very bright... Sounds dumb, but click them on and see everything, then click them off. not to walk around with) - Kev

wow dude, common ghost, the last post on this thread was DECEMBER............ please stop reviving dead threads.... With all of your encouragement for players to do some research before posting a new thread on something that's already been posted, you're one of the last people I'd expect to say something about reviving this thread. For the record, the post before mine was from October, and I'm aware that reviving dead threads is bad, but I figured it was better to revive an old, dead one than litter the site with more threads on the same subjects. So forgive me, I was wrong, next time I'll make new thread. But seriously, if anyone could tell me what to look for when shopping for impact resistant lenses, let me know via PM- so as not to resurrect this thread once more and upset the forum nazis. -Ghost

Look for an ANSI Z87.1 rating or at least 2.2mm thick polycarbonate material.

No, Mortis you did the right thing. Your post was on-topic, and it's better to revive it such that everyone's on the same page. The only thing that might have helped would be to indicate in your post that you knew you were resurrecting a dead thread, as that gets everyone in the right mindset.
As a result, I EXALT THEE!

Ghost, Straight from a Global Mod... you did the right thing.
You should be looking for one of three specifications when searching for proper polycarbonate lenses. The lenses should have a rating of ANSI Z87.1, MIL-V-43511C (military equivalent of ANSI Z87.1), or ASTM F 1776-01. The ANSI rating is what you'll find more often than not, the ASTM rating is specific to paintball eye protection, but has been deemed more than sufficient for airsoft.
Having said that, I must also caution you that whatever material is surrounding the lense should also be of a grade that will stop a high velocity, low mass object. If the mask surrounding the lenses is some low grade thin flexible material, like you see on the sides of most cheaply made shop goggles, you could be setting yourself up for disaster. The last thing you want if for a shot from some heavyweight tearing through the side of your gasmask, bouncing off the inside of the lense and then bouncing off your cornea.

Wiley-X's are the prescribed eyewear now due to it's 2.0mm ballistic lens.... With the M40 type Gas Mask there are two lens. One that is changeable, one that is not. You can also get prescription inserts for them. ^^ true true

You would just be better off ducktaping an airconditioner to your helmet.
