I have the TT 1-Piece MAV. I've been thinking about writing a review up, but I haven't gotten to it. So far it has worked out well for me. I've also got the X-harness so that I could strap a hydration pouch on the back and have some PALS webbing on the front around the shoulder/upper chest area for radio gear. I've been to one OP with it (Blind Fury in Ohio) and several team skirmishes. It is a light, low drag piece of gear. Good if you can travel light, bad if you are the sort who wants to take the kitchen sink with you. It is certainly a sturdy, well constructed piece of load bearing equipment. The down side to it is that it is a little tricky getting into and out of.
What gear loadout do you envision putting on it? Do you have modular pouches already?

Wow, then the MAV will be a quantum leap for you.
So, lets talk loadout.
Do you want to have pouch loadouts for both your M4/M16 and your MP5? How many Mags do you have/do you hope to have for each platform? Do you have a Excel BB bottle (the one shaped like an M16/M4 mag)? How about the TM pistol mag reloading tool? Are you looking to carry a small size FRS type radio or something bigger? Do you carry a spare battery for your gun? How do you handle your water needs?
Have you looked around at modular pouches? Do you have any manufacturers in mind?
What sort of "role" do you typically play? General rifleman, medic, recon, etc...

What has you thinking 1-piece instead of 2-piece?

I know that was addressed to fishman, but I went with the 1-piece because I didn't want to loose the space on the front for pouches.

Well the great thing about starting out modular is that you'll be getting pouches and then you can always buy something different to put your pouches on. I am a big advocate of traveling light, partially because I am not a very big person. I want to keep my loadout to a reasonable percentage of my body weight so that I can maintain speed and mobility (which I find very helpful in airsoft). I would recommend the Blackhawk STRIKE pouches. I have a couple Blackhawk pouches and a couple TT pouches. For mags, TT doesn't make a double stack pouch for M4/M16 mags only a single and a triple, TT also doesn't make an MP5 mag pouch. I find triple stack M4 pouches sometimes get in my way and are a bit harder to lay prone on top of. The Blackhawk STRIKE series has double stack M4/M16 pouches (in singles, doubles, or triples). They also have a triple MP5 pouch. So you could get: 2 of the MP5 mag pouches (hold 3 mags each): www.blackhawkindustries.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=2815&d=2 of the M4/M16 Double Mag Pouches (hold 4 mags each): www.blackhawkindustries.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=2790&d=A radio pouch (lots of good choices, blackhawk, TT, other companies) A utility pouch or two (again lots of good choices out there for this) And you would be all set for now. Several of the tactical gear retailers on the left of the main forum list carry Blackhawk STRIKE and other modular pouches. I would check them out and before ordering call and see that they have the item(s) in stock. Again, when starting out with modular pouches it can be a bit expensive. You are going to spend way more on pouches than what the MAV costs. BUT, if you ever want a different rig, buy it and put your existing pouches on. (If you are a TRUE geardo then you buy pouches for each rig, but I am not a true geardo). Mite <edit> Also, anything you want from Tactical Tailor I would order direct from TT. See my review at: miairsoft.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=retail&action=display&n=1&thread=1086902397</edit>

No problem with the help. Certainly the world of load bearing gear can be overwhelming. I know I did a lot of reading and searching before settling on the MAV as my first piece of load bearing gear.
In my opinion, it really is about the lowest drag piece of gear you can get that is modular with PALs webbing.

I absolutely despise my Blackhawk pouches. I suppose the basic design is sound enough, but the Blackhawk snap system for attaching the PALS webbing sucks in a very resolute fashion. It's fat (which makes it harder to push through the webbing), it's bulky (which means it has less grab on the bottom than other pouches do), and (for the sake of having three points), it's attached to pouches made in Vietnam. The only good thing about Blackhawk is that their Vietnamese factory can easily hire extra underpaid third-world workers, and so you can always get their gear.
The TT single M4 mag pouch has webbing on both sides, you can buy two and stack them to create a double mag pouch. My favorite mag pouches remain the Paraclete pouches - I love the Paraclete stiffener attachment system, the construction is bulletproof, and they're made here in America.
