Egh. I need a radio. I know two things about radios... Jack. and Shit. So...if a little help could be had, I'd appreciate it Which brand? Which model from that brand? What have you all used, and been happy with? I've a couple requirements: It must have an easily obtainable headset/mic setup available...I refuse to have to try really hard to hear my radio when it's stuffed in a pouch. Second...it's gotta be affordable. I don't want to spend more than 75 bucks...and I'd prefer to keep it below 50. Sooooo...hit me with some suggestions. I'm open to anything at this point...and thanks in advance for your help

Anything by Motorola or Cobra should suit you fine. I can't recall which CObra model I have but it's been alright and they have a variety of accessories available.

The cobra microtalk is probably among the best, mainly because the most recent older models have the 3.5mm and 2.5mm jacks. The Talkabouts may have more bells and whistles, however, the newer/newest models all have the 2.5mm jack, forcing you to use their accesories. Unfortunately, this also is the same for the newest Cobra microtalk radios.
I believe you can get the Cobra FRS radio pretty cheap, 30-40 bucks ballpark.
I've used my 'lil cobra microtalk for about a year and a half now and have been quite pleased with it's perfromance. Of course, it doesn't equal that of my Saber, for an FRS radio with both jacks, it's tops.
---The model I have is the Microtalk 220, which are in abundance on ebay if you desperately need one.
For most good accesories you need the dual pin (2.5mm/3.5mm) radios, which should be kept in mind when you are purchasing one.

there is a really decent set of radios that a bunch of my team get receintly . adiovox 2 radios (14 channels) two sets of rechargable batteries double charger dc wall plug(for charger) car lighter plug (for charger) two slip chases two earpeice /mi plug ins (ear peice wraps around the ear and the mic is a wire that cames out from the ear peice not one on the wire going to the radio ). all of this for $24.00 at your local KMART so far they work great .in a group of about 15 to 20 there are probably about 12 sets in our group this seems to be a great cheap way to go for radios . Thanks MANTA X of MIASec8

xaos, i found a good radio /throat mic combo for cheap. walmart has a cobra micro talk model pr-955 vp for $39.00 with rechagable battery pack included and radio shack sells the amplified throat mic that a lot of us have for $19.95 . the radio is a 2 plug jack that you need for the throat mic combo and all seems to work very well, espically for the money! most of the newer radios all use the single plug for the mic/ earpiece so it's getting harder to find a two plug setup but the better accessories all seem to use the two plug.

Don't want a throat mic...they seem awful troublesome for very little return. Thanks for the info tho Will prolly go shopping later today. From what I've gathered in a day of research, it seems there's really not too much difference between the higher priced radios and the bargain types, so I think I'm just gonna grab something that looks like it'll work and has the mic/earpiece combo I want available. Thanks for the help everyone

At Costco I got 2 Talkabouts that have 5-mile ranges and Vibra Alert. It also came with 2 rechargeable batteries, 1 dual charging dock, and 2 cheap (but they work) headphone sets with mics. I got all this for 75 bucks.
