hey guys! need a little help here, was lucky to get one of the radio shack throat mikes from elite eagle at the last skirmish but all my radios have a single plug in for the mic/earphone combo and the new throat mike uses a double (large/small) pin setup like the older motorolas have. my old 10x -gmrs works fine but since we are all using the new frs units now , i need a model number and brand of radio that is frs and takes a double plug. hopefully a motorola but i'll settle for anything that works, features are not important as long as it works for our purposes. anything new and up to date is the new style so i think i'm looking for an older unit and maybe even discontinued. any ideas???

Well:) The talkabout 250 series, such as Munin should have one of mine, would be the correct one as best I know. So depending on where you live compaired to him, you could try it out. Otherwise, that series has the plug you seek:) And it should be found on ebay for cheap. It also works with normal FRS bands and interference codes.

The single accessory jack was the main reason I didn't purchase the talkabout radios. Like Luke stated, the older 250 series and the older talkabout models have the dual jacks. I decided to purchase the Cobra microtalk/talkabout equivalent, and haven't had any problems with them, and for that matter, been real pleased with them, and their durability.
Motorola tries to make you buy their accesories which are manufactured exclusively by them for their talkabout radios, for a higher price than what you can get similar accesories. It's a shame that they did this, but business is business I suppose, though they didn't get any money from me

I *believe* there's an adapter out there somewhere. There was a thread running on ASP about general radio/throatmic stuff, that's where I saw the adapter mentioned...might wanna have a look there.

Acctually now that you mention that, at one time, maybe a year ago I saw one at Shopko, which I don't think you guys have down there. But you may check wallmart, kmart and whatnot. They used to stock one. Otherwise there is a link in that thread Xaos talked about, I do remember that now.

Be warned: just because you have an adapter doesn't mean that it will work correctly. The newer Motorola radios use a proprietary PTT code, which means that even if your mike/speaker combo fits, you may still have problems with hot-miking (i.e. your radio is always transmitting, like VOX mode, but worse). So just because you can find an adapter that makes the pins fit doesn't mean that everything will work.
I would go with Motown's suggestion and just get a 2-pin radio (Cobra, etc).

radio shack has the throat mikes for $19.95 and the alpine ave store in grand rapids had 2 of them as of yesterday. i have located an adaptor to make a single pin from a 2 pin but not the other way around so far. wal mart has a cobra radio that will work for 39.00 so i may end up with a radio like motown suggested. i'll keep checking and let ya know how i do! thanks! also saw a different brand of throat mic on e-bay under airsoft stuff last night for about 20-30 bucks!

Hopefully you're happy with it, as I said, I've been quite pleased with the performance of mine. The only thing that I've had go wrong on mine are the rubber covers for the accesory pins have come off, but the amount of abuse I've put them through, they've come out flawlessly almost everytime. I believe your radio probably has all the nifty features on it (scan and such) which can come in handy, mine unfortunately, are old and don't, but it doesn't detract from their functionality.
If it can spend at least two months with me, and come out still working, then it deserves my seal of approval.

Everyone needs one of these! Some of you have probably seen or heard of it before...probably over most peoples spending budget too. www.garmin.com/products/rino120/Anybody know of any throat mics that don't have 2 plugs? I would like to get one for my radio.
