Geist Kompanie showed me the tactical advantage of having a nice bright light for CQB. I almost made the big jump and purchased a Surefire, but not having a large supply of funds at this present time, I found a suitable low budget solution that may work well for the rest of you cheap bastards too!
Main ingredient:
1 Legend LX Brinkmann Flashlight (includes 2-3v lith batteries) purchased at Meijer for only $20!!!!
Other suggestions:
1 Slightly used High Weaver scope mount
1 Slightly used Butler Creek Flip Cap
1 Chunk of flexible plastic
1 Can flat black paint
I mounted the flashlight into one of those garbage weaver rings (that don't deserve to be mounted on anything larger than a .22) using a chunk of flexible plastic as a spacer. The spacer is needed since the flashlight is slightly smaller than 1" diameter. My Bushnell Elite 4200 got its flip cap robbed (since flip caps suck for anything but a target rifle). Surprisingly, the damn thing fit right on! Anyway, you mount this little package on the bottom front rail and darned if it doesn't work out as slick as (insert something slick). Very bright little light. It isn't top notch durable & leet like a Surefire, but I can't tell the difference here in my darkened up apartment. Much better than toting around a 3 d-cell maglight and it has comparable, if not better, light output.
Edit: They even had the smarts to put the on off switch at the back of the light in the right spot. The switch is a little stiff though.
