Got some quick questions about reddots... What kind of batteries do they generally take? How well suited are they for outdoor use? Does anyone have any experience with G&P red dots, (this one specifically www.wargameclub.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=GP-RD-45MMD_cat_Reddot Scopes) or any other G&P products for that matter What are your general thoughts on red dots vs. normal scopes, or just general info on red dots that someone with out one should consider before buying one. Thanks in advance...

well i have a red dot on my upgraded p90 that sighted in perfect (thanks snip) and it works great. at night it dominated all other team members because you cant see through open sights good at all. indoors its good for quick snap shots, i would highly recomend getting a red dot you wont regret it. oh and with my 165 round grenade i can just put the red dot in the gerneral direction and hit everything I have nothing else to say

Most red dots use Lithium ion batteries (i.e. camera or watch batteries). You can pick them up at hardware stores or electronics stores, but you might be hard pressed to find them at a Kroger's. There's a number and votage on top of each battery. You need to replace it with one of the same number and voltage.
If the red dot has a good brightness, then the red dot is very well suited for out door use. Of course if the highest power is so dim that you can't see the dot, it won't be much good to you. You'll want to do some research on that.
Check out a larger forum (probably airsoft players would be your best bet, unless airsoftzone comes back online soon) to see what people have to say about G&P red dots.
Red dot vs. normal scope...
Well, red dots have no eye reliefe (a set distance of how far away your eye has to be from the lense), so you don't have to worry about getting one to match the attachment point on your gun. They offer much quicker acquisition and give a vastly larger field of view. You use a red doot with both eyes open, so not only does the lack of magnification not take away from the area you see through the lense, but you also have your other eye to see everything you normally would if you weren't using any sort of sights.
And at the ranges that most airsoft guns shoot (assuming that your gun isn't highly upgraded), you really don't need any magnification. You'll be able to see your targets well at the range that your gun shoots.

I’ve got the G&P 30mm AimPoint ML2 Red Dot Sight; this is a great red dot. I’ve owned a bunch of red dots in my time made by different companies, never any that were AimPoint replicas though, and I gotta say this G&P AP far exceeds all the red dots I have owned. Its metal construction, has I believe 9 different brightness settings, comes with its own mount, and dust covers. The finish on the AP is awesome too, look so real, of course… to match my SR16 I did away with that and painted it all up in my camo scheme… but it was truly magnificent. I bought it from UN Company at 78$ + shipping, with shipping I was looking at more like 100 bucks I think. 78$ is a considerable amount more then you will pay for a non-AP regular red dot from someone like Tasco(sp?) but I think it was worth every penny.

I too have the G&P 30mm AimPoint ML2 Red Dot Sight.
Don't waste your time with a scope unless you are shooting 500fps+. A red dot is perfect for CQB and outdoors alike you use it with both eyes open and it allows you to aim and kill in a matter of instances. Unlike paintball, upgraded AEGs shoot faster than the eye can typically trace. So you are stuck either shooting with the gun site or an attachment like a scope or red dot. After my first experience at M40 I immediatly acquired a red dot. I found it very difficult to accurately aim in a high intensity situation. With the red dot all of those problems are solved...
Buy a red dot. And if you are trying for military realism get an aimpoint.
